did a search and was not able to find anything.

i have owned both the xd357 and a g19 and loved both but wanted to try something new. they are priced about the same and feel the same to me. is there an advantage or disadvantage from either one? like the quality for example. please help, thanks!

I love my XD but I can admit Glocks don't have such a huge following for no reason, personally most glocks I have handled feel terrible in my hand, so I chose what fit, and pointed better, I suggest you do the same

they both fit in my hand well, no handgun has not fit me well except for a bauer .25. i can hit bulls eye from 7yards with both guns. friend of mine will be purchasing his first handgun soon and needs some opinions

While I'm a big fan of the XD series, I'm the first to admit that the Glock and the XD are pretty much equals in terms of quality and reliability. Both are very accurate handguns, and the price points are pretty similar. So normally I'd advise you to see which one fits your hand better, but you've already said they "feel the same" to you.

So I guess you need to make your decision based on features, since all other things seem equal.
- The XD has a fully supported chamber. The Glock doesn't.
- The XD has a grip safety. The Glock doesn't.
- Glock sells individual parts. Springfield doesn't. If something breaks, you have to send it back to SA. (not a big deal with a lifetime warranty, but an issue for some people)
- There are probably more aftermarket accessories (holsters and sights and such) available for the Glock.

Hardly official, but here are some impressions. YMWV.

I've fired a G17, G19, XD9 4" and XD45 4".

- Trigger: Glock.
- Ergonomics: XD.
- Operating controls (slide/mag release, etc): XD.
- Track record: Glock in 9mm is thoroughly proven as a reliable and safe pistol.
- Felt recoil: Subjective, but the XD seemed like it had slightly less recoil in the same caliber. Shooting the .45 wasn't painful, although there was quite a bit of muzzle flip.
- Consistency: Hard for me to say. Both myself and one other shooter got the XD45 out on Saturday and were both doing surprisingly well at 25 yards, slow/aimed fire, standing. I haven't put enough rounds through either system to speak authoritatively, but accuracy is usually not sited as a weak point in the Glock system.

A minor point, but a few pistol caliber carbine manufacturers set up their magazine system to accept Glock magazines. I don't know if any are made to accept XD mags.

- The XD has a fully supported chamber. The Glock doesn't.

I thought this was true of some Glocks (.40 S&W) but not all (9x19)?

Glocks have a long history of failures

Umm... Glocks are probably regarded as the most reliable pistol around. Everything in terms of reliability is usually compared to Glocks. I'm no Glock fan, but I state what I see.

So, no. I do not agree with that statement.

When they were the HS2000, I should have bought one, but I didn't. Now that Springfield has gotten their mitts on the design, the price has gone up!! :(

Oh well!! These days I've pretty much migrated to other things.
My carry gun is the Walther PPK/S and my HD gun is the Ruger KP95DC.

The Glocks sit in the safe until I become interested in them again.

Heck!! I feel my revolver phase coming on!!

Both are good. If I had neither, I would take either.

When my wife decided to get a 9 mm in addition to her .40 Glock 23, she finally settled on an XD.

I carry an XD because I like the trigger pull, but the shorter reset on the Glock is nice.

Thats news to me.

edited to add:
I went thru this decission a couple of weeks ago. I looked at a 4" service 9mm XD, and a G19. I picked the G19 because of its smaller profile, lower bore axis, and ability to accept G17 hi-cap mags (also a 30 rounder available). Tho I am sure the XD is a fine gun.

If the choice allows for something other than Glock or XD, you should at least take a quick look at the CZ line. Just picked up a CZ75B and it handles and shoots as well or better than some of the higher priced handguns.

glock vs. xd my favorite.

Here is my personal take on the sitaution!

These are my personal opinions and by no means are true for everyone, but these are the reasons that I prefer the xd to the glock!

Grip angle- more comfortable, feels better in my hands.
Grip girth- I have small hands so something I can wrap my hands around is important.
Finger groves- don’t like them don’t think I need them.
Guide rod- metal instead of plastic
Metal sights-unlike glock
Factory sights- 3 dot sights are better for me than the glock u type sights
XD gear- xd comes with holster, double mag carrier, and loading tool, and three mags glock does not.
Metal trigger- xd has metal trigger, glock has plastic.
Trigger pull- trigger all around better on the xd.
Xd has a Fully supported chamber, glock dosen’t
xd mags are ss, and easy to disassemble, and clean.

Now I love my XD, (I got 2 hicaps....not 3....) but honestly the holster is rubbish. I havent used the mag carrier, but the mag loader is nice.
I wish they'd give us the mags and the speed loader and just drop the price 70$.
Or maybe if it came with a surefire light instead.

I chose XD because I did not like the Glock ergos and trigger. I just got my XD back from the gunsmith and hour ago, had some trigger work done, imagine if you will almost a 1911 style trigger with a long and smooth takeup. That is my XD. The takeup is almost not noticable and the break is crisp and clean, about 4-5lbs.

I'll start a new thread as soon as I get the pics on my PC.~Nathan

First, let me say that i have owned 2 of each:

4" XD40 w/ heinie sights
4" XD45
G19 9mm
G27 40cal (i carry it currently)

and i have shot the XD subcompact 9 as well.

In the past year i have picked up shooting as a hobby and I absolutely love handguns. I have owned quite a few, and I am no expert but i have some experience with both brands.

I feel that both have their positives and negatives. Both are made with extremely good quality and I have had no failures or problems with either brand. In my opinion, the XD is a better gun IF shooting is your main concern. While the Glock does have a lower profile and an overall smaller size( when comparing a G27 to a subcompact XD), the XD shoots better plain and simple. I dont know anybody that can make an argument that the Glock feels better and shoots better, because it doesnt. The springfield is MUCH more ergonomic, MUCH more comfortable/pointable, and in turn, MUCH more accurate when shooting. I actually just got done shooting 200 rounds through my G27 yesterday. I chose to buy it for carry because it seemed ideal. It is overall much smaller and less bulky than the springfield, but I feel as if i made a poor decision in buying it as my carry gun after shooting 200 rounds through it at the range yesterday. Although my G19 has a smooth-style trigger and a 3.5lbs trigger connector, the trigger pull of the glock is nowhere near as natural feeling and comfortable as the XD. The trigger on the Glock is very angled and my finger feels as if it is slipping all over when i pull it. The XD is solid. My finger just sticks right on it and comes straight back. After 200 rounds through my G27 my trigger finger was in alot of pain because of the crappy feel it has upon recoil. I could shoot 1000 in a row with my XD and my whole hand would still be just fine. The size of the Glock's grip is too wide(from front to back) and I dont like the knuckle groves. They also cause some pain when shooting(and i dont have big hands at all).

I could go on and on, but to put it simply i think the Springfield is just a better gun overall. I carry the G27, but i will soon be trading it in for a SIG p239 SAS. I am also getting rid of my Glock 19 as well.. theres just nothing that this brand of gun offers except its reliability(but i would say no more reliable than most other high-end guns) and the external simplicity and sleekness of the slide. Other than that, it really isnt too comfortable to shoot, it hurts my hand, it doesnt have any other features to it, and I can't shoot it well. I think if I had to choose only one gun to serve as my over-all piece, I would take the XD over the Glock in a heartbeat. The ONLY area the Glock has the XD beat in is the size of the slide. The XD has a much bulkier and taller slide, but the rest of the gun makes up for it. XD > Glock overall is my say.....

edit* forgot to mention the obvious... the XD also takes the Glock in features. Some(including myself) look for simplicity, but the features of the XD such as the loaded chamber idicator, cocked firing pin indicator, gip safety, metal guide ride vs. plastic, etc etc. just give you more for your money. Some of those things arent needed in a carry gun, so a sub-compact glock might be more desirable for carry vs. an xd SC, but after shooting both one would have to be crazy or have deformed hands to think that the Glock would give them an advantage over the XD in a real gunfight. We are all human and the XD was better designed to fit human hands than the Glock... and that's what counts when actually trying to hit your target: feel, comfort, pointability, and shot recovery. XD wins this category.

well considerng at one time they cost more than they do now, especially around here and they didn't come with any of that stuff. like when i bought mine. i bought mine right after i got back from Iraq for about $500 otd, because there was no where else around here to go, now a good friend bought the same model i got, which he bought saturday and it came with all the above mentioned. and payed $461 otd. not to bad, and they holster ain't a $70 value, you can buy them for $30 off of www.pistolgear.com and everyone needs a good magazine holder, i don't see why it would be that bad especailly for a range use mag holder. you really can't ask for much more than all the above and the xd's superior quality, for the money. there are always gonna be those folks that say will this sucks, but this is cool, and such, you will never be able to please everyone, but they do a good job trying i do believe.
as far as the surefire light if you trew one of those in there there goes your $70 off, and a little more to boot they ain't cheap.:)
Glocks have a long history of failures
I hate it when i see stuff like this, please tell me where you get this intel, i among others would like to know. is this something you have figured out yourself or you heard from a friend who heard from a dude, that......? i am not an avide glock fan or shooter but do own one and have spent alot of time with them, but i know this is a statement that Is way out in left field. though i don't like them as much as other guns, i still respect them and think they are the #2 best handguns in the world.

I just bought a XD-45. I have a safe full of other "carry guns". I would suggest that your friend takes a long look at the CZ line of pistols before buying a Glock or XD. Also consider the S&W M&P. And the Taurus 247.

Jess

psyopspec -- wow, how did you find those threads?? Your search skills are amazing ;)

You guys were all busy making faces at the "long history of failures" comment, but I would have gone with the even-more-ridiculous statement, "did a search and was not able to find anything [on Glock vs. XD]."
