The Silver State
The Mountina Bluebird is Nevada's state bird. Our state flower is the sagebrush and our mineral is silver. We have a state color, motto, and a dozen other icons that represent Nevada. But we don't have a state gun. I bet no state has an official state gun, a firearm that symbolizies the state.

Nevada is vast and open. We have more ghost towns then real towns. It does have a "wild west" flavor to it. So I think the Nevada state gun should be the good old Colt Peacemaker. Makes you think of Bonanaza and the wild west. Walk through Virginia City and you almost imagine "cowboys" and their Colts on their hips.

For California, the state gun should be the Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun. It symbolizes about the only gun that doesn't have any ownership restrictions on it...yet! I am sure one of these days its magazine limit will have to be changed to ten BB's. Then when they add copper to the dangerous substance list, BB's will have to be made of wood, recycled of course.:D

So now its your turn. If your state had to adopt an official "state" gun, what do you think it should be? What firearm best symbolizes the area you live in?

Wisconsin
I would choose the Winchester Model 94 in 30 WCF as Wisconsin's state gun. This probably applies to most of the midwest seeing as the 94 has taken at least if not more whitetails in our area than any other firearm in history.

Arizona:

I'm still going to say the Buntline Special for Arizona. Although let me know if I need a new one since Lizziedog already used the peacemaker

The Thompson for Illinois because of what was going on there in the 20's with Capone, Prohibition, and the mob. California could either go with a S&W 29-2 because of Inspector Calahan or a pistol with a 2-round magazine and 5 pounds of "safety equipment" that didn't work.

I lol'd.

That, or they could just have a gun with a red X through it.

Louisiana:
Probably a Handi Rifle, they're very popular here with the new primitive firearms season. They sell out almost as soon as a shipment gets in.

I think we almost have.:D

A few months ago the Texas Governor was out jogging with his dog when a Coyote tried to attack the dog. The Governor killed the Coyote using his concealed carry Ruger LCP. Ruger made a thousand of these. They sold fast.:)

or a tater gun! ;)

I was actually thinking either a .30-30 levergun or a crack-barrel scattergun for Louisiana. I doubt there are many of us that didn't start out hunting the backwoods with one, the other, or both here in Sportsman's Paradise.

The Remington 600 in .350 for Alaska. It was designed (so the story goes) for Alaska bear guides.

Or, I'd be just as happy with a Marlin Guide Gun.

Since Oklahoma has the largest amount of Indian reservation land and the highest per capita Indian population, maybe we should nominate the 1795 Model Springfield Arsenal Musket, as a reminder of what happens when you trust the government. This musket was the main U.S. Army weapon during the 1830s, which means that it was at the point of this type of musket that the 5 civilized tribes were forced to relocate to Oklahoma.

Id have to say Ohio would have to lay claim to the High Point as the state gun since its made here.
But in pictures we place a brown paper bag over it.
