Oh Guns&Ammo, don't ever change

I just found this advertisement to be funny because who is going to roll out of bed at 0300 and slap on some tactical armor.

Gecko_45 would. But he doesn't really need it. He doesn't get seen unless he chooses to be seen... ;)

magazines

since I got my Droid gun magazines are that part of the gun that holds the bullets even on the throne.

My gunsmith keeps a pile of free gun Pr0n on his shelf. Take some, leave some, whatever ...

But I haven't bought a magazine in 10 years or more,

I subscribe to several, renew when I get a rediculous discount offer, like $9.00 for a year's subscription.

When they arrive in the mail I do a quick thumb-through, scan an article that catches my interest. Usually I'm done in 10 minutes, then I pass that issue to the barber shop, auto repair garage, a neighbor who has expressed interest in guns.

I subscribe just as a general support to the whole shooting industry. If the gun magazines and their ads for firearms related products go under, then the whole industry is hurting. I also subscribe because they piss off the anti's!!

My one question would be: "how easy is it to get on in a dark room under stress?"

If it can be gotten into in the same or less time it takes to put on a bathrobe, then it's got a use. So there's a bump in the night. The lady of the house sends you to investigate. You pick up the following:

Pistol
Spare mag
Flashlight
Cell phone

Now what? You've got two hands and four of them are occupied. Unless you sleep in a pair of Levis' your jammies aren't going to take kindly to the weight involved and are soon going to be headed toward the floor, further complicating your mobility.

The solution has long been the humble bathrobe. It has pockets and the weight hangs from your shoulders. But if I can shrug on something in the same or less time that offers ANY further protection, then I'm game to consider it.

The idea has been kicked around for a while, I'm thinking by both John Connor and Clint Smith.

As an aside, I don't subscribe to G&A anymore, I get a lot more enjoyment from GUNS, American Handgunner, etc. It would be cheaper to subscribe, but I pick them up on newstands once in a while.

I quit ALL magazines a long time ago. In modern times the format just doesn't work.

Agree 100%.

I haven't had a magazine subscription since I let Popular Mechanics lapse in I think 2000. It's a dead medium.

Android phone with voice controls. ;)

I get my American Rifleman for free because I know that my wife and mother in law sneak around behind my back and flip through them. I can't say the same for gun websites.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I enjoy getting several gun-related magazines, including Rifle, The Handloader, the American Rifleman (of course), Gun Tests, Shooting Times, Guns & Ammo, Shooting Illustrated, Guns, the American Handgunner and The Shooting Sportsman. I like reviewing articles describing the latest in firearms, ammunition and reloading. Yes, I read most of them sprinkled with the proverbial "grain(s) of salt" but I still find much of the information interesting if not valuable.

I grew up in an era (the fifties) that was pretty much devoid of firearm-related information directed to the general public (the American Rifleman, the Shooters Bible, Gun Digest and the shooting columns of Outdoor Life-Jack O'Conner, and Field & Stream-Warren Page, excepted). I think younger shooters are jaded by the glut of information currently available from many sources, including the internet, and don't have the perspective that some of us older shooters have. My only comment is that if you don't like the content of contemporary "gun rags", don't buy them. But for some of us, at least, the current, if much disparaged, firearm-related magazines offer a useful resource for learning what is interesting in today's world of guns.

Haven't gotten G&A in at least ten years. I mean, how many times do I want to read "9mm vs. .45" articles????

Besides, is it really even a question?? :D

I haven't bought a mainstream gun mag in years. Occasionally I will check out Small Arms Review or Shotgun News at the local Barnes and Noble. Aside from that I really haven't found anything that interesting or that informative in Guns and Ammo for many years now.
