Today was a day full of much rejoicing, a day of glory and wonder! And, I went to the range. You see, our 9 year old went back to school today! Halleluja! And, I went to the range...and remembered the camera this time!! ;D

Insert Handel's Halleluja Chorus here.

So, I got to the range, August Arizona sunshine already building up, was a nice 90 degrees when I left at 0845. Yummy, and as you can see here, the sunshade really doesn't do any good this early in the morning.

So I set up, with some factory stuff, and various handloads.

And went to work.

It's hard to get those "action" shots right using a timer... ;D

I love those relaxed fit carpenter's jeans, but they sure make me look dumpy. Can you tell I am carrying three firearms, not including the one I am shooting? Legally, too. I love this state!

And the results?

This last target also represents my two failures today. One failure to lock back on last round, and one failure to feed. Now, an experianced handloader will see my load listed is way UNDER normal load range, and is classified as too light. Works great in the P01, but was a touch too light for the P07 to function normally. :-[ Oops.

Everything else worked perfectly, . One thing was instantly obvious - the sharp checkering was not going to let me not notice it. Recoil was VERY manageable, but the sharper jolts let my palm know that checkering wasn't going to let that gun slip at ALL.

All magazines functioned properly with good ammo, (excluding the lead reload. ), dropped free full and empty, and the sidearm worked as advertised. I must say if it keep this up, I will be very impressed! What the heck, I AM impressed!

Sounds like a great day of shooting. Since when do kids start going back to school this early?! I remember going back at the beginning of September, but that was many years ago.

Honestly it's hard to tell, the trigger FEELS like metal.

Thanks for the compliment, Doug, pretty basic stuff with a cheap digital camera and even cheaper tripod. :)

Total of 103 rounds fired, BTW. Yes, it was a good beginning to the day, all the brass merrily tumbling away behind me. :)

...

Very nice looking outdoor gun range..

If I was with ya, we'd be shooting at my black, red, and green, balloons filled with helium, tethered by a, aprox, give and take, 5ft string, anchored by individual rocks with close and wide separations, long and short ranges.

They'd be gently swaying in any breeze, and your mission, and I know you would accept it, would be to take out the BG/s black/Red, and save the GG's, green, for last.. lol

Enjoy, I see you already do..

Hah, sounds like fun. Notice the GIANT backstop behind the artificial one..shoot through THAT one! :) This range is very nice, here are the two pistol bays from a berm stop, the one I was using is on the right.

Rotate the camera in place to the left, and look down to the far end, the fabric cover all the way down there is the range I usually like to use. Just out of sight to the right is the 100 yard no table one, the only without any tables under the cover, (that shadow behind the NRA rules sign), used often by some Creedmore shooters. All ranges have covered shooting positions now.

And the "long" range, said to be 250 yards, I think more like 175. That's the original covered area, many holes in the roof, unfortunately. Open area on the left. The fabric covers and the other shooting benches were added two years ago, from a Federal range grant.

All free, city maintained, open every day at 0700, close at sundown. Unsupervised, so I only use it early weekday mornings. The city employees also clean it every morning, no trash down range or left in the trash barrels. They DO leave the brass, however! :)

the government that manages that range is a government to be supported. The range I attend here in Alabama is like that, except we have foliage here :). No park attendant, open from dawn to dusk everyday of the week. We have ranges everywhere, state run ones in most national forests areas, and tons of private ones.

I KNOW you enjoyed you CZ.

Heh, ya think? :) Hey, didja see the cactus? That IS Arizona foliage!
However, as we all know, the camera never lies, and one shot caught my BUG showing!

Good thing the only thing behind me was electronic...

Good for you. The range looks so empty. I wish I could just take a day off and get into my hobbies. I have spent too many days with family on vacation and cannot afford to just take another day off.

I RECOGNIZE THAT RANGE!!!! Shot there with my brother in law and father in law last Christmas. Casa Grande right? I wish we had a free range that looked like that where I am at. I am envious.

Wow, free public (in both senses!) ranges... How has Texas fallen so far? For all the supposed swagger and gun-toting history we are a bunch of suppressed cub scouts down here by comparison.

I had to join a rifle club at $100 and $100/yr just to shoot cans and plastic bottles!

Ask and ye shall recieve! :D

Here's some comparison pics. P07 on top, then P01 on top, size wise, very close.

The P07 has two more rounds in a proprietary, but tank tough magazine, a larger trigger guard, (useful in cold climate!), the switchable safety system, poly lightweight frame with good recoil manegment. The P01 has known durability, the ability to use Crimson Trace lasergrips, :) has aftermarket stuff already out, (can't find a rig for the P07 yet.), and can use any Compact/PCR/P01/or full size CZ pistol magazine.
The P07 seems to be quite accurate, and I know my P01 is. Time will tell, and I am giving the Duty a run through to see how tough it will be. The P07 will make an excellent Police sidearm, I believe.
