Oh, how I envy the political "sheep" sometimes...

As in, those that don't give a hill of beans about doing their part to make their voices heard at the polls. After all, if I was one of THEM, I'd probably be ASLEEP right now rather than waiting up to see the election results! ;)

Note that some here may have chosen not to vote out of protest for not wanting to choose the "lesser of two evils." Please note that I don't count YOU in with this crowd of do-nothings that I have much disdain for. If any of you are here, then I at least accept that you were actually INVOLVED enough to learn enough about your choices to decide you wouldn't give support to any of them.

Me, I got up early to go vote. We have a small but decent turnout for our tiny district. Like most early mornings at the polls, I get in before the number of voters has reached 2 digits. Even better, there's a local guy who does not drive, but "thumbs" his way around the township...I picked HIM up and took him with me! :D Don't know how he voted, but it felt good to help the whole electoral process! ;)

So I go to work, and at one point ask a co-worker if she voted before work.

"Nope."

I ask her semi-seriously if she thinks she'll get off in time to do it tonight. In theory I know what her quiting time is, but a minor flu epidemic means overtime is the order of the day for all pharmacy personnel here! :what:

"Don't know, but it dosen't matter. My vote dosen't count!"

I say, more jokingly this time, "Well, don't let me hear you complain about any politicians for the next 2 years!"

"Do I EVER?" :p

.....PWNED! No, she NEVER does talk politics. Which I guess makes sense. Care enough to discuss it, you'd probably care enough to PARTICIPATE! :banghead:

So while the blind, numb masses go about their head-in-the-ground existance, guys like me gotta sit up and see where the chips fall. Then it's just begun. If "I" lose....will it be as bad as I fear? If I "win," then have I made the right choice?

Despite the title, I don't think I'd ever WANT to live my life like that...though sometimes I wonder...

My girl does the same thing... Doesn't vote and doesn't complain. Ever. It's amazing. She probably hears enough whining from me and doesn't want to wreck our relationship if she voted against what I do :uhoh:

But she doesn't complain. I kind of admire her convictions since she tells me "I don't vote and I don't complain", and she actually follows through, but I do think that an attitude like that is dangerous. I also find it hard to believe that there are people who DON'T complain lol. Scares me a bit, but she's a good girl... maybe she knows something I don't :scrutiny:

I do find it amazing how some people manage to completely block politics from thier radar. Oh to be blissfully ingorant. Count me among those staying up late to get the voting results.

Oh, thank goodness we have such dedicated sheepdogs! Where would the numb masses be without them?

I appreciate that my girlfriend has absolutely no clue about politics. After hearing it all day on the radio, reading about it all day on the gun forums, and seeing it on the news, it's nice that I still have a "safe place" to rest and recover: someone who doesn't care about all the garbage of politics.

Lantern, the thing the sheep realize (that you may not) is that the quality of one's life is more affected by one's relationship with a significant other or family or by one's character than by who wins the House tomorrow. Turn off the TV and go say something nice to your wife.

With the way the results in my state are see-sawing, not only do I wish I didn't care about politics, I wish I didn't like guns. With the influx of military families we're going to get in the next few years, the political climate in this state just might change enough to get CCW and get rid of ballistic fingerprinting. If the gun-grabbing socialist challenger beats the incumbent Republican governor, not only would it be a huge step backwards for both of those issues, we can almost bet on an AWB in the next legislative session.:banghead:

I have a quiz tomorrow and an exam on Thursday, both of which I really need to study for, and I can't resist the urge to listen to the radio for results

Well put, Green Lantern. Very well put indeed. Personally I voted over a week ago on an absentee ballot. That way I don't have to worry about the lines and I can use the comfort of my own home.

I remember when that was me. I sure was a lot happier back then.

My girlfriend is the same way. I think the only reason she really voted is because she saw how worked up I was about certain issues (that and I told her that if she doesn't vote, she doesn't get to complain about gov... Her answer "Do I complain about it anyways?) She asked my opinion of certain ballot measures here in Oregon, and of certain politicians, but didn't go so far as ask me how I voted. I know that there are certain issues we don't actually agree on, but they're the minor issues...

However, she's home asleep right now, and I'm at work getting nauseated watching the results come in....

Ugh.... :barf:

Mindless sheep is more accurate...

It's a sad statement of the situation we're in as a country, and the voting turnout is still low compared to the rest of the Western world. Do people just not care? As long as they have their warm blankets and food I guess they're happy with whatever happens...

Sad... so much for "this great land of ours"...

It's a lifestyle thing. Some folks aren't interested in the things impacted by federal or state laws. They get up, go to work and then go home to the TV. Go to happy hour, maybe. Weekends, they maybe party a little, take in a movie or go out to dinner.

They don't shoot or hunt. They aren't business owners. They don't invest in real property. Many pay little attention to economic affairs beyond their own households.

If their ox is not gored, they don't see any reason to care.

It's folks who see harm, whose interests are impacted, who don't like being forced to give up various personal freedoms and who look beyond their own personal lives who become some sort of activists in politics.
