I have run pretty much the full gamut on rifles. I have owned milsurps, assault rifles, bolt guns. However the lever action bug has bitten me. I love them! I do not have but one, but am looking for more all the time. They are not the most practical rifles in the world. However a pistol caliber carbine is way high in the cool factor!

Anybody else have a similar story?
 
Well, they ain't leverguns, but three of my most recent rifle acquisitions have been an M69/71 Vetterli, a kar71 Mauser, and an M1874 Gras. Yeah, I've gone kinda retro. :D
 
Know what ya mean!

I can't explain it either but pistol caliber lever guns are very high on the
coolness scale. I've got the Marlin 1894c in .357. Best gun I've ever had,
accurate reliable, versatile, and all the guys at my club want to fire it. I think
there is almost a cult following for pistol caliber carbines. Pick one up
you'll never regret it. :D Also that little carbine needs a friend. It would
be a great excuse to pick up a matching revo.:D :D :D
 
You are right on the money. My most recent acquisition is the Marlin 1894c. What a beauty! Still haven't fired her but I am already satisfied with the purchase just from the fit, feel, and appearance.

Also, in contrast to all my tacticool items, the wife doesn't seem to mind if I just leave the 1894 standing in the corner. Now that's saying something.

I have a Win 92 in 45 Colt...fantastic rifle. Light, handy and accurate with the potential to have quite a punch if I load it hot. I used to have a Win 94 in .30-30 but it didn't do anything for me. Sold it and haven't regretted it. Not a bad gun, just not my cup of tea.

My other lever gun desires are:

* Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70
* Win 1895 rechambered for .35 Whelen
* Henry .22 LR (for the kids...honest!)
 
A few years ago I went retro. I added a .308 Steyr Model 1912 Mauser (manufactured for the Chilean military), a MK III* Lithgow , No. 4 Lee Enfield, and a Winchester 1895 (30-06) to my battery.Last year I purhcased a Winchester 1897 riot gun. I know that it isn't a rifle, but it's retro. I've since gotten into revolvers, but I still look at the surplus racks in my local gunstores. The old rifles have a romance to them. Even if the model you buy saw nothing more heavy then the occassional trip to the rifle range.

If one buys a Rifle NIB back in 19mumbly-something and keeps all these years. Is the Rifle now considered Retro or is the owner considered a Relic ?

FWIW I don't seem to be collecters item :D
 
I have a Marlin 1894P in .44 magnum - it's a great carbine. As I have fired it and worked the action, the action and smoothed out some as the parts broke in. Not that it wasn't pretty good at the beginning. I recommend you replace the Marlin hammer spring with a "Magic Spring by Seven". This spring lightens the force needed to work the lever but doesn't cause any ignition problems.

This spring is easy to replace.

I'm going throught the same pattern. I picked up my fairly new Win 94 in 44 Mag today after shooting mainly .308's for almost a year. The rifle is smaller, easier to bring up into position, shoots great and it's probably all I will shoot for the winter.

I just finished loading up some 240 grain JHP's using 24 grains of H110. It should come out of the barrel at 1900 fps + or - a few. It's a load that is just shy of a 30-30 up close, but wins out in the end.

I figure zero at 50, down 2 at 100 and down 20 at 200, but more than that it is just fun. Go for it
 
I own a Blackhawk in 45 colt.
So when I found a Winchester 94AE for sale in the classifieds, I figured ya can't go wrong with a revolver and a rifle chambered for the same round.
I've had it about 3 years and have never fired as it had never been fired when I bought it.
Keep sayin I'm gonna do it, but it ain't happened yet.
