January 2008 issue of American Rifleman page 71. New York Governor Spitzer promises to "look into the "problem"of antique and muzzloading guns."
The article would be funny if there was a cure for stupid. The article sights a statement that a 50 cal.(muzzleloader) "is the most powerful sniper rifle available to civilians" and that the gun was a"weapon designed to shoot down civilian aircraft during takeoff and landing" Obviously they've got the 50 cal. muzzleloader mistaken for the 50 cal. bmg guns.
The sickening thing is that these people aren't even a little concerned that they got it wrong and that 30 seconds of research on the internet would have educated them. Once again I state, THERE IS NO CURE FOR STUPID!

How could a weapon that was available in the 19th century have been "designed" to shoot down aircraft? There were no aircraft until the early 20th century. I highly doubt that even the .50 BMG was designed for that purpose either.

"Stupid is forever."-Ron White
Doesn't New York have other problems that need to be looked into, or is it such a perfect place now they have nothing better to do than target more things?

At some point in the 18th century there could have been a problem with drive by muzzle loaded shootings. It could happen again.
We must stop this scourge before it becomes a problem!

I bet he has never even held a gun before. If he thinks that a .50 Muzzle loader is for Aircraft, I wonder what he would think of a .58 with a Minie loaded? Battleships?

No cure for politicians either.....

Somebody recently in the last few months did something or was thought to be planning to do something with a muzzle loader. The Governor's interest in muzzle loader legislation is probably related to that incident.

On the site here I read fairly regularly of people asking if they can modify or chop or reconfigure various muzzle loaders into configurations that would be illegal or require certification or registration if the same changes were done to a cartridge type firearm. This type of talk is also done by folks not posting on web sites. This could also be some reasoning behind that Governor's interest.

Government agencies who want to control what people have the freedom to do will always try to find what the people next do when one freedom is limited. Take away a gun and the people pick up an ax. Take away the ax and people pick up a shovel. Take away the garden tools and people pick up a walking stick or cane. Take away the canes and stick and people start to carry a rolled up newspaper or magazine. Can't take away the newspaper or magazine, but they can try to regulate limitations on rolling one up while carrying it.

A government that fears the citizenry will do many strange things.

The article goes on to quote some website called GunGuys that the 50 cal. muzzleloader was designed to shoot down civilian aircraft on takeoff and landing. 30 seconds of research could have saved these idiots from being misinformed. The tragedy is that people will read this crap and believe it and they won't bother to research the difference between .50 bmg and .50 muzzleload.

Yea that makes a 58 cal front stuffer a Tank Buster . You can cover up ugly but stupid always shines through .

And some are totally clueless or misread sarcasm who will come along, misread something, then scamper off to misquote what they misunderstood and cause a panic.

One could write "I killed about 50 of them with the first bomb and the second bomb got the rest" :what: . The whole story is that the person was talking about using a bug bomb fumigation cannister to try and remove a hornet's nest in their attic. But some panic driven fear mongering gossip will stop reading just the first half and scamper off to tell tales of terrorist bomb threats being planned on an internet site.

Guaranteed that that picture of the "50" above will be forwarded by someone as to what a muzzle loader looks like. Sarcasm doesn't type too well.

Dwave..

You said:

I beg to differ with you. There are some EXCELLENT cures for politician infestation. Unfortunately, discussion of the techniques and tools is not only not very "high road", but could earn you a visit from various alphabet agencies.

I think the French used hot air ballons for military recon during the era of muzzle loaders, thus to protect the hot air ballons, I support the ban in

FRANCE!!

Didn't they catch some guy walking around with a muzzle loader on a college campus recently in NY? That's what's made Elliott nuts.

On the subject of shooting down planes... You do understand that Eliot Spitzer's political career is in a death spiral, right?

Like Jimmy Buffet said, "there's no dumb a---s vaccine. Just vote him out. A fear of guns indicates an emotional and sexual problem. Sigmund Freud

Here in FRANCE!!.........you can buy any replica BP weapon without any paperwork , just walk in and buy it.
One should obviously hesitate to breed from this - and every other politician. If the meet up with the anti booze lobby we are all bugg**ed

I'm sure you could with a little encouragement get him to ban the fearsome brown bess assualt musket:evil:
just needs a bit of imaginative writing
like the dangers of hydrogen dioxide h20
never stop your enemy when he is about to make a mistake

never stop your enemy when he is about to make a mistake

Quite wise.

Spitzer's short time in the Governor's office has been a history of pushing for highly unpopular legislation like drivers' licenses for illegal aliens, and his administration is under investigation by the Albany County DA for corruption -- latest subpoenas went out two days ago.

Let him bury himself; he needs no help.

Would you believe that they are not mistaken? They know very well the difference between a .50 caliber Barrett and a .50 caliber muzzleloader. It is all about creating confusion and panic in the sheeple. Yes, they do want to outlaw muzzleloaders along with centerfire rifles.

NY "hunters" will have to "register" their muzzleloaders if Spitzer has his way.

These guys are treating only the symptoms and not the disease. It is sad really.

Take New Orleans for instance. Years and years of government entitlements and shoddy feel good measures made that area untenable during and after a major crisis.

People complain about "governmental dependence", but don't realise that unless you have their leave, you can't do anything anymore. So we are all, defacto, depending on the government. The government, is creating it's own problems, as most governments do.

NY tried to ban .50 caliber allready. Didn't pass because there was no clause to exempt the muzzle loaders. Muzzleloading/blackpowder, surprisingly is, a big industry in New York.

and yes, Herr Spitzer isn't doing too well as far as public opinion, he's allready alienated himself with the drivers license thing, a push by the hunters will probably slam the door on his re-election
