Police find arsenal of unregistered weapons in local man's truck

CHAGRIN FALLS -- A Chagrin Falls man is in jail Wednesday night, after police found, among other things, an arsenal of unregistered weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck.

One gun found is an M-15 - another is a 12-gauge shotgun - both, police say, are un-registered. A .45 found was unregistered too.

And we took a snapshot of hundreds of rounds of ammunition found inside Robert Beggin’s truck. We don’t have pictures of the camouflage gear, military flack jacket and helmet with the line “born to kill,†but police do.

They say they found it all, plus, drug paraphernalia inside his truck when it was parked behind an office building early Monday morning at 24 South Main Street in Chagrin Falls.

Beggin told police he was going to target practice later that day.

In recent weeks, Beggin lived on Orchard Street in Chagrin Falls with Patrick Thoma, who was with Beggin in the parking lot when police confronted him.

He worked at Zeppe’s Pizza, where his manager, who didn’t want to go on camera, called him a great employee and person.

Forty-eight hours after the arrest - and this was the first the staff of Tamara’s Salon in Chagrin heard of the arrest, which took place two blocks away. “Hopefully they do tell other people and who it was so they can be aware,†Lisa Ricchino said.

But Beggin’s friend says there’s nothing to be scared of. “I really believe he’s a good person … I believe he had no intent of hurting anyone else,†he said.

Given his arsenal of unregistered weapons, police say if he wanted to, Beggin could have caused serious damage and injury.

Beggin faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He has no criminal history and is due in court next week. You can read more on this story in Thursday’s edition of the Chagrin Herald Sun

CHAGRIN FALLS -- The Chagrin Falls man who packed his truck with guns and ammunition says he’s not guilty.

Robert Beggin made a video arraignment in Bedford Monday morning.

Police arrested Beggin last week after they found drug paraphernalia, three semi-automatic weapons, 600-rounds of ammunition, a gas mask, and a helmet that reads “Born to Kill†on it - in his truck.

Police say Beggins described himself as a survivalist.

“He said he has the right to defend himself at all costs … he made some comments that he was very unhappy about the way things were going over in Iraq and about the North Koreans,†said Chagrin Falls Police Ptl. Jason Weiskopf.

Beggins pleaded not guilty to the drug and felony weapons charges.

I'd like to know exactly what kind of paraphernalia the guy had. Does OH require all weapons to be registered?

Ohio doesn't have registration (its not that socialist yet).. one of the many reasons it recieved a D- by the bradys.

If I'm wrong.. someone please correct me.. but as far as I know... there is no registration

Registration. It's a funny thing. When I show my collection to someone who has no clue, they usually ask "are these registered?" When I say no, they get this horrified look on their face. I tell them they don't have to be registered and they don't believe me. It's actually quite amusing. Then they point to the Bushy M4gery and ask if it's a machine gun. I wish. Then, ask about my "Sniper Rifle" (Ruger M77 7mm Mag w/ Bushnell scope that has been used to kill an equal number of humans and big game) and my eyes start rolling. This goes on until I hear the words "banana clip." Then the safe door shuts.

Oh and before anyone freaks out. That number is ZERO.

I believe I read this story before, on another board. If I remember correctly, it said he was already felon.

Was this written by an unregistered reporter using an unregistered computer?

Beggin faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Guess that lack of "registration" really wasn't a crime, was it?

Yes there are places (technically within the USA) that require registration. Ohio doesn't, but the northen cities are governed by statist socialists who do not consider themselves bound by the state or federal constitutions.

Yikes! I had a bigger arsenal of semi-automatic weapons and more ammo than that when I headed to the range last Saturday. Far more! Had couple of military battle rifles, scopes, hearing protection, survivalist boots and camo clothing, knife, cell phone and manuals related to cleaning, maintaining and repairing those guns.

My drug paraphernalia was limited to one large Dunkin Donuts caffeinated coffee and some Tylenol for an annoying shoulder...

I came back with less ammo than I started with.

Given his arsenal of unregistered weapons, police say if he wanted to, Beggin could have caused serious damage and injury.

You can only cause serious damage and injury with unregistered weapons?

I think the OH cops would faint dead away if they pulled me over in route to the range. I usually have around 20 guns in my car and more ammunition then all the cops in my small town combined. If this guy has a "arsenal" I would hate to see what they call the typical THR members collection!

I wonder what they are going to charge this guy with?? Maybe he is a felon or the guns had their serial number filed off?

In Idaho 3 guns and that much ammo is par for the course. Most farmes and ranchers always carry something in their trucks.

The story could hardly be more misleading. There is nothing illegal about having a truck load of unregistered weapons, especially rifles and shotguns, certainly ammo. The story states that he is not a prohibited felon. They went on about "aint it awful", when referring to perfectly legal aspects of the story.

The real charges appear to be in reference to not having a concealed carry permit, as if he was actually carrying upon return to his vehicle. The actual credible story is that it was a drug bust, but no, guns are evil, yadda yadda. The reporter needs to receive some informative letters and publish a follow up. The hysterical nature of the original story is pure baloney.

So I wrote the moron...

Mr. Tye,
In your article you said "CHAGRIN FALLS -- A Chagrin Falls man is in jail Wednesday night, after police found, among other things, an arsenal of unregistered weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck.

One gun found is an M-15 - another is a 12-gauge shotgun - both, police say, are un-registered. A .45 found was unregistered too."

I have a couple of questions:
1-Did he have unregistered sunvisors in the truck also?
-Where do you get the idea guns are registered there?
I think you will find he is charged for something else...
2-What constitues the break point for an arsenal -numbers wise? That is hardly an arsenal. Only a person totally uneducated about firearms would get excited over a couple of hundred rounds of ammo, I can shoot that in a 10 minute period!
3- "CHAGRIN Falls? Ha! How ironic.....
Mr. xxxxxxx
Constantly amused by the pants wetting inflammatory biased media...

There's no state gun registration in Ohio, and you can legally even carry a gun openly. Maybe there's a local gun registration law there.

If he had a concealed handgun and doesn't have a CHL, then he could be in serious trouble. Getting a CHL isn't very difficult as long as you don't have a criminal record, and haven't been involuntarily committed due to mental health issues.

As for having 600 rounds of ammo and 3 guns in your car... That's not an arsenal. That's just enough for a short trip to the range.

I'd probably scare these officers to death if they picked me up on the way home from stocking up on ammo at Walmart. The people at the sporting goods counter remember me now, and aren't in the least surprised when I buy 1000 to 2000 rounds total in a few different calibers.

Before the company I work for came up with thier stupid weapons policy, I often had as much as 600 rounds of ammo in my car in case I felt like stopping at the range on the way home from work, or going to shoot at lunch.

How can you be a responsible gun owner if you don't practice regularly?
