I failing to find how much time can pass between the CCW training course and registration with the sheriff.

EDIT:
OK. I thought the same, but let me rephrase the question, because I really don't think it's being read correctly.
I don't mean to sound dense, but the phrasing in the book is a but too concise for me.
I can take the course and wait 3 years PRIOR to applying for a card with my sheriff?

.

I think its 30 days, was told today when I applied I was getting close to the cut off took the class the 9 th of Feb...

I think it was on the application when I did mine - is it not there now?
(I'd check, but the AG website isn't cooperating at the moment)

From 2923.125 Application and licensing process.

(3) One or more of the following competency certifications, each of which shall reflect that, regarding a certification described in division (B)(3)(a), (b), (c), (e), or (f) of this section, within the three years immediately preceding the application the applicant has performed that to which the competency certification relates and that, regarding a certification described in division (B)(3)(d) of this section, the applicant currently is an active or reserve member of the armed forces of the United States or within the six years immediately preceding the application the honorable discharge or retirement to which the competency certification relates occurred:

They are supposed to issue within 45 days, but unfortunately, there is no penalty in the law for exceeding the 45 day maximum.

When you are up for renewal, I suggest checking here to find out which adjoining county has the best turnaround.

In Franklin Co., I walked in for renewal and walked out with my new one in about 5 min. When I got my original, I think it took about 3 days

I read it as saying that you have -3- years from taking a qualifying training class to apply for your permit. I applied within a week and haven't heard of anyone waiting very long after the course to apply for their permit. You could call the sheriff's office to confirm with them.

There most definately is a penalty. The sherif can be removed from office for dereliction of duty. OH is a shall issue state and the sherif has 45 days to approve or deny the app. If you have one that is over 45 days contact Buckeye Firearms, I'm sure they'd love to file more lawsuits on an uncooperative sherif

Removing a sheriff requires a written complaint signed by 15% of the number that voted in the last election for governor, or alternatively, signed by the Governor. Good luck accomplishing that. See ORC 3.08 for details.

Except the section of Oho Revised Code detailing the application process provides no penalty for a sheriff exceeding the 45 day maximum.

Lawsuits cost money. I am aware of BFA filing one lawsuit so far during its existence and that was against Cleveland several years ago.
