I set out to hunt a couple of my farms this weekend. The best one another guy who hunts there text me saying he was hunting all weekend, all day so I was going to head to less then stellar farms that usually get pounded but my buddy called Friday night and invited me to his place and of course I accepted. We get in and there are 3 of us on the farm and my buddy says a shooter buck ran past him while in the blind so we all wait and I'm screwing around on the phone and look up to see a deer walking towards me. I put the phone away and it catches me and stands there staring at me and walks behind a tree and leans to the side with only its right eye looking at me through the binos. This went on for about 5min until he feeds off offering me several shots but he kept moving his head back like he was licking his hind quarters and I cam a hair of shooting him in the face when he did this. He caught me move a few times and I thought for sure he was going to bust. He began to feed north of me offering a quartering away shot and I hear my buddies pistol go off on the other side of the farm.

It has been about 10min now of watching this buck and sitting as still as a statue so I turn in the stand to face north and he walks right onto the atv trail and I rested on the other hang on in the same tree and fired and he dropped where he stood. He thrashed around for a bit and I racked another one in my Marlin 1895 and held on him until he quit moving. Man I hate that! We now had 2 bucks on the ground from the same stands and same time frame we shot our doe 2 weeks before during the first gun season. He shot his doe at 415 and I shot my doe at 430pm separate sides of the farm and yesterday he was 430pm and me 445pm.

I walk up to my buck which I thought was a 10pt and find out he is a non typical 12pt and had a break on the outside of the main beam by the g2 which would be 13pt. Aged about 5-6yo. Upon checking for entrance and exit I see a hole in the neck and think how the heck did I do that one? Only thing I can think of is the other stand moves a lot and it moved knocking my rest off or he put his head back to bite at the rear end like he was doing before. Two bucks over 120'' taken within 15min of each other.

I am now officially done deer hunting and donated this one to a family in need. Now time to coon, coyote and squirrel hunt.

Sounds like your pie plates are a lot bigger than you thought? lol
I wanted to double check it before I hunted but I figured the range would be full again. :neener:

I think he turned to bit his rear end like he did several other times. Last thing I remember was putting it on his side. I guess jitters got me being my 4th deer in 16yrs and all. but hey thanks for your support.

Hey thanks for your support. I mean a normal hey congrats man would have been cool but nope. seeing how this ****s already derailed like the last one because of you ill finish it! I don't see your point and not sure anyone else did either. I guess your trying to say no matter how tight the gun is sighted in there could be miss haps. Well, I actually took the time to practice with mine, actually get it shooting a nice tight group and for some dumb reason the deer moved or the treestand I was using as a rest moved. I did everything in my power to make sure all the factors were illuminated but something flooked. I guess for the pie plate guys they might hit hit him square in the head or antlers and just had a huge mess.

Congratulations , he is a nice buck .

I was rabbit hunting my property today and the dogs jumped up 4 deer while running a rabbit , one was a real nice buck . I am going back there Tuesday or Wednesday and see if I can get him .

It hasn’t derailed...and it IS a really nice buck. That’s exactly what I was trying to get at. Things DO happen sometimes...congrats on your harvest and good on you for donating the meat.

good luck! I want pics when you get him.

Congratulations! A very nice deer as a result of preparation and perseverance. Guessing that location may be a ‘favorite’ for next year. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats, very nice deer and a good way to end deer season. I’ve enjoyed reading your comical posts and mishaps this year.
Thanks! Yeah, its definitely been crazy. 2018 spring goal is to knock on as many doors as possible to get away from the hunt club farms and the ruckus so its not so stressful. My other buddy I donated the meat to is trying to get me to go out for Muzzleloader and shoot another doe but I told him I'm done. 3 deer for me being a single guy just seems greedy even if I'm donating it to him. Plus butcher fees are getting expensive! I need to go take down that deathtrap stand that tried to kill me earlier too. thanks for the reminder.
