In the far back reaches of my dusty mind has been the memory of that nice new-looking BLR Lightning (alloy frame) on the shelf of my local Gander Mountain last fall when I was strolling through. It was nearly NIB, seemingly never fired, nicer than average walnut, 2 factory mags, nice leather sling, and its box… The only thing was that it was chambered in 7mm-08 which is one of the few common calibers I don’t already load. So, I passed it by – even though it was in the low $400 range – telling myself that it would have been “mine” if it had been in .308.

Well, then came last night. I went back to the store and looked through the used rack. I found that BLR still on the rack. It had a few handling marks now from riding that shelf for the last few months, but nothing more than a few seasons in the woods wouldn’t have added to it anyway. So, I bit the bullet and worked a deal for the rifle, the 2 mags, sling and box. Yes, I’ve had better deals in the past, but none nearly as recent. Now I’m happily branching out in this small way from my >.30 cal world as an “official” 7mm shooter and I guess now I’ll get to begin to look for good deals on .285 or so bullet molds, new 7mm-08 dies, etc.

***Found another deal on a Ruger #1 in 357 H&H that I can't pass up... Yes...this is being listed on Gunbroker - Damned my fickle nature. Nice gun...but that "little" Ruger I just picked up complete a very long quest. ***

Chris,

The BLR has always looked like a really nifty hybrid to me, and 7mm has a lot going for it. Sounds like you did pretty well. :)

I'm somewhat surprised that the BLR isn't more popular given that it's everything the Savage 99 was in calibers they never chambered it in...

All in all I'd say you did well even if you did dabble in metric obscurity.:neener:

At least you can say it's made from a .308 Win case and gain a littel street credit!

LOL. Yep. I think this will make a perfect first rifle for my daughter...still gotta a few years before turning it over though.

***Hey, I just noticed that this was my "308th" post.

:) I was waiting for that. I'll work on getting one up here. For now, please accept this link/pic. in it's place:
