I will possibly be able to finally buy a nice red dot/holographic sight for my vZ-58 in the near future. I have used cheap, was disgusted.

BSA $50 cheapie, fell apart.

ADCO cheapie, didn't last to the range!

Leapers cheapie, actually works pretty good, horrible battery life, not a reflex sight.

Now I have a loaner that works pretty good, but need the click adjustable version, with a slightly smaller dot - 8MOA covers the bull on my target at 100 yards.

Now what I want is a reflex sight with looong battery life, (I'd like to leave it on for fast use), rugged and durable, BUT, doesn't cost a fortune, i.e., no $1000 sights for my $900 rifle! I like the EOtech series, but they look bulky, and the talk of short battery life isn't good, but the ability to use AA batteries doesn't hurt. I hear of Aimpoint, though not WHICH one, that has this incredible battery life, but is a reflex and easy to use sight?
This is for a rifle that won't likely get used over 200 yards, if that, and makes up the big part of this...

I could just get the C-More with the smaller dot and click knob, but I like really rugged stuff, which makes me lean to the EOtech and Aimpoint stuff. BUT, if I had to, I could go back to the Leapers...it's the only one I actually own right now.:neener:
I think my budget will be $500-600, estimated.

with that good of a rifle, it needs good glass and that price you would easily be able to get a eotech. that is what i run and have for years military and personally, but more and more i am seeing alot of aimpoint micro t-1's on ak's ar's and vz-58's as well in training courses, everyone seems to be pleased with them. if i was gonna buy a new optic right now that is probally what i would get. they are compact lightweight, and aimpoint rugged.

Thanks. Waiting for da $. I like that little T-1, and the 5 year "on" battery life is nice. One person said the mount was soft/bad on thiers, and wouldn't hold on a Picatinney, any one here have personal experiance? I am 90% sold on the T-1.

I've got a T-1 on an Ultimak gas tube mount that's never given me a problem.

I just got me an Ultradot for my mini 14, never owned one before (red dot) how do you sight one in, at what range do you sight on in, and what is the max range you can shoot accurately with one on a .223 mini. ??

Sight it in just as you would any other optic.

For .223 55 grain FMJ-BT, that would be about 1 3/4" high at 100 yards, and a 230 yard zero, which will give you a maximum point blank range of 270 yards.

At no point between the muzzle and 270 yards will the bullet path be more then 5" below or above the line of sight.

If you want closer then that, use 1.2" high at 100, zero at 200, and MPBR at about 235 yards. The bullet path will never be more then 3" above or below LOS.

How accurate a red dot can be depends entirely on how good your eyes are, and how good you can shoot a rifle.

I have on more then one occasion, shot MOA groups at 100 with my EOTec while load testing handloads.

I agree with Mr. Happy, my next red dot will be the Aimpoint H-1 as I have no night vision equipment anyway, and install it on my SLR-95.

Ever so often, MidwayUSA runs sub-$300 specials on the Aimpoint 9000 series. I have found them very sastisfactory both on AK/AK platforms and on my brush rifles. They are a bit larger than the CompMs that I normally bought, but they work just as well.

I prefer the Aimpoints to the EOTechs, but that preference (red dot vs holo) is one that has been hashed out in many other threads.
