I just saw on the Ruger website that they are selling integrally suppressed barrels for the Ruger takedown model. After watching Rugers video and a few others on YouTube I'm starting to think I really want one. ( want not need ) ;) Is that wrong of me?

I'm a little bit of a 22lr junkie . Just looks like fun , and I think that the absence of the crack when shooting will make it easier when teaching my grandchildren . I think the loudness of the crack contributes to flinching when kids are learning , and un-learning a flinch can be tough. ( that's a pretty good excuse to get one don't ya think?:D

Maybe I could tell Grandma that the fine folks on the High Road said that I would be remiss in my duties as a PawPaw if I didn't emphasize the importance of hearing protection to my grand babies ?;) What do you think ??.....can I blame this on you guys?;)

You can do anything and have it all when you "do it for the children".

Latest example. M&P 15-22 for grandson.

If we were post HPA I'd say sure, otherwise I'd say just get a 10/22 with a threaded barrel and get a suppressor separate, so you at least have the option of sharing it on other guns.

Demi human , Capnmac, glad you fellas have my back .

When I taught my sons and daughter to shoot I started them out with cork guns just to hard wire safety and muzzle direction awareness into their brains. Then we advanced to Red Rider BB guns from a bench to teach them how to aim and reinforce the earlier lessons. Then around 6 years old we went to an old Ithica 49 falling block 22 lever . Load it with 22 shorts and it's pretty quiet.:)
The 49 had a faux tube mag that made the rifle to heavy to have any perceptible kick with 22 shorts. Over the years we advanced to larger and louder calibers. I feel thi method led to none of my kids ever having a flinch like the one that I myself had to unlearn.

All that being said the above is all just an excuse for me to try and get out of saying that " I saw a new toy and I think I want one ":D which is the plain ole truth of the matter.;)

Make sure you look into the legal process to buy that before you get your heart set on it. Your not just going to get to order it at the store. I recently started the process to get a couple and was told I the wait time for the paperwork to go through is around a year right now

Wait, people actually have reasons?

In all honesty tho i think suppressors are one of the best tools for training younger shooters. Ear protection isnt usually fitted for smallest heads, much less keeping it on them all the time. Id be much more comfortable target shooting with my kids if i had a suppressed rifle.

The poor mans supressor is a box of cci standard velocity 22 lr or any other "target ammo" and a 22 rifle with about a 20-24" barrel. No ear protection needed.

Someguy2800, Another round to try would be the CCI quiet-22. It is a 40 grain bullet rated by CCI at 710 fps at the muzzle. It is crazy quiet out of the 24 inch barrel of a 39a . It will hit about 3 inches lower at 50 compared to CCI standard velocity out of the same rifle. However it still has enough velocity at 50 yards to pass through a 1/2 inch plywood . That is plenty for small game at 50.

However I have not found any semi auto platform that it will reliably cycle. It is great out of revolvers, bolts and levers, and very very quiet.

Kind of like asking a bunch of alcoholics if it's okay to have just one beer at dinner.:D

I would personally rather have a separate can so it can be used on all my rimfires, but if it's your bag go for it man.

Hondo , I'll be sure to tell her.

She is not as bad as I make her out to be. She has come along way over the years. I am a North Georgia mountain boy who married a sweet little Yankee girl from Bostono_O . Before me she had never seen a firearm that wasn't behind a glass in a store.

I still remember a conversation between her and my dad way back when we first started dating. Not sure how it came up but, she said to him " do you actually own a gun " ? :what: To which he replied to her " Oh Lord sweety they're in every room in the house " as he pointed to the Winchester 94 hanging above the fireplace:D

Since then I have taught her to shoot and fly fish. Which has been very expensive she likes blued steel and fancy walnut, and her taste in fly rods is like her taste in shoes. She likes them pretty and expensive:uhoh:. The most disturbing part is like my kids and MY grandkids she likes my lever actions best of all. Sometimes it is a struggle to make sure they remain mine;) I have had to say to all of them more than once " Now look I'm not quite ready for you to throw dirt on me yet, so how about you just let me keep this one a little while longer." :uhoh:

Anyway , Thanks for all of the replies fellas, Tentwing

Buy Suppressor of your choice, integrally suppressed or thread on, have fun

Now you are just bragging. 8)
Seriously though, you are a very lucky man.

Of course there is always the option of telling her it's a gift for her.
Or that it is for you to listen more closely when the two of you go shooting together.
