Check out this auction. Seller says this gun is the ugliest Python in the world, badly polished, badly refinished, and still showing lots of pits. Yet someone has bid $405 on it and that didn't make the seller's reserve price.

How much does he want for it? Who would pay $400+ for it? A nice Python can be found for $600 without too much looking. How much is this ugly one worth? I wouldn't pay over $150 for it. I guess I'm crazy?

I am with you. $150.00 would be my max. You can see tha damage on the OUTSIDE. What the heck did they do to the action?

I guess it's just like an ugly old dog, you just can't let it go no matter what the price.
It's NOT gonna get better with age, that's for sure.

From the collector's standpoint, this will be the world's ugliest Colt Python. It has been brutally ground then renickeled, pits are evident under the new nickel finish, on the muzzle the is a spot where the nickel has flaked off and the rampant colt is only partially visible due to excessive grinding. And lets not forget the ill fit grips. However, as a shooter, this is a find. The cylinder locks up like a bank vault and the timing is proper. This will make a great target handgun or sidearm for the field. This is the epitome of function over form without the $1000 price tag.

You've got to admit this much: the seller has a sense of humor. I don't think his sense of humor is worth the sucker price he's asking, but at least it's a sense of humor.

I would pay $350 maybe up to 375 for that Python. I bet it still shoots well just looks a little beat up. Some of these dealers are on crack if they think a run of the mill late 70's or 80's Python in worth $800-900. If I was going to pay $900 for a Python it better be in very good condition with box and paperwork and be made in the late 60's. I guess that is why you see some of them listed for months on gunbroker or auctionarms.

I am sorry, but 'ugliest gun' made me think this thread was about the Ruger .454/.480 SRH's, probably the most 'techno-ugo' revolver ever produced. Sadly, I traded my old-friend, a 7.5" .454 SRH, last fall, having tired of the cruel remarks of my range-companions.
