I'm talking about my stash of pistol magazines. I have at least 7-10 per pistol that I own and I'm up to 7 right now (I think). They are always getting mixed up and when it comes time to go to the range it becomes a real PITA. What am I doing wrong here? :banghead:

I know there is someone out there who has already come up with a solution to my problem. Anyone bold enough to share pics of your magazine storage area? Pleeeeeeeease :D
 
Even ten handgun mags don't take much space when placed vertically upside down. I suggest small tubs or tupperware or something. Label the tub itself, and once its organized, all you need to do is maintain it. That's about as easy a solution as there can be.

I'd post a pic but I don't use that system. I only own one handgun, and I only have two mags for it.
 
My name is Coop and I'm a magazine whore. I use plastic bags to keep them separate.
 
All my magazines look different from each other so I can easily spot which are which. If all yours look the same, follow the system that Coop45 uses, or a version of it.

... and a labelmaker for the end of the boxes.
For instance, some boxes have labels along the lines of:
Glock(sub2000) & M1Carbine mags
XD & Walther
Surplus pistol mags
rimfire pistol mags
1911 mags
SKS stripper clips

... you can drop in a card with more details, right in the divided section for each type of magazine
 
A couple of systems I've see that work really well.

1. Place them in small plastic covered tubs and a label on each identifying which pistol they are for. I upgraded from cardboard shipping boxes to cut down on dust infiltration.

2. Mount horizontal magnetic strips on a vertical surface. Stick your magazines on the strips, like you would kitchen knives
 
#2 sounds like a pretty neat idea.

Would ziplock bags or Tupperware trap in moisture and cause rust? I'm a little worried about that. Otherwise, Tupperware sounds like a very simple solution to my problem. Can't believe I never thought of that!

I have a lot of pistols and a lot of magazines for each pistol. A lot of loaded magazines are around the place. Some of the magazines look alike, so I put a white label on the base of most of the pistol magazines.
 
Put stickers on them.

Little elephant stickers for 45's, Tiger stickers for 9mm. Mouse stickers for 22s etc etc. ;)
 
If you put stickers on the mags, put them only on the bottom. If you put them on the sides of the body, they could peel and jam in the frame

Not sure about moisture being an issue. If you're concerned about it, you can drop in a silica packet or two. They're those little bag things that come in new shoes.

Link to disposable Silica Packets on Amazon - $5.99 for 20, $14.99 for 50.

Another alternative is the reusable Silica canisters. Here's a link to the reusable type. You bake em to remove moisture, and reuse. A bit more expensive at $15 each, but from what I understand, you can reuse em over and over for years.
 
I color code with a spot of nail polish just inside the mag well and on the bottom of the mag base plate.
 
We store ours in CED six pocket nylon magazine pouches labeled with a white clothing marker. These stack very well on a safe shelf and are easy to use and transport.

I also keep some magazines in CED's small accessory bags. Depending on the magazine, each will hold a dozen or more. They're labeled with removable laminated tags since they have handles to attach the tag to.

Magazine choice and segregation is based on the pouch's or bag's labeling which is large, easily read block lettering.

You have too many pistols. I have one pistol and one revolver there is no magazines to confuse.

those. 7 actual mag pockets. you can stuff more inside if you don't put in a pistol. they're pretty cheap at $10 each, tie a tag with firearm they're intended for for quick lookup, or use the different colors for each or for calibers.

and of course, they're out of stock now.
 
Use an old fashioned DYMO label maker and different colors and place a number on the bottom of each one - one color per gun. Makes it easy to rotate them as well as keep them separate
 
I must be doing something wrong. All of my 8 round mags fit all (8 or so) of my guns. It doesnt make any difference if i get some mixed. Although I do try to keep each pistol with a fair amount of mags in a case. Each gun has its own case .

Silver colored sharpie. Label and number each Mag:

Gun Identifier - capacity - number. Ie a 9mm Glock Mag that holds 10 rounds would be

G9-10-01

A 1911 mag might be

1911-07-01

Poor guy. I am glad I can come up with a solution to the magazine confusion issue. I would hate to only have one revolver and one semi, espically if it was because I couldn't dirtier out a way to keep them seperated.

I understand that owning pistol and revolver is amateur approach to handgun ownership. Pro would choose different combo such as: G17/G26, G22/G27, G21/G30,..... That is how it should be done. The 'BUG' should handle standard size magazine of the "Big Bro" for reload purposes. That is smart way of going about it.
