This is NOT a glock v 1911 contest... This is an old guy (56) asking a question about sights.

I have a Kimber Custom II Stainless and a G19. IMHO the recoil and "feel" of each (granting the difference in grips) is about the same.

My question is re sight acquisition. I have the standard Novak (black) sights on the Kimber, which I have painted, first silver (front and back top half), then white. I still have problems at times acquiring the front sight. BTW the Kimber shoots better than I do, much better.

I also have my G19 gen 3 with the standard "U + Dot" sights. This one I can shoot the lights out with. (best was 15 through a 3" circle at 15 yard, semi rapid fire... good day for me).

I was talking about it with Deadeye Deb, my fiance, this morning. She pointed out that the Glock is black, except for the sights, and the Stainless Kimber is, of course silver, and that may contribute to my problem.

Give me your opinion. Is the Kimber stainless finish my issue???

I'm considering the purchase of a set of XS big dot tritiums for the Kimber, to solve the problem and add value to the pistol. I'd like to spare the expense (except I am really intrigued with the XS's, and I'm probably going to buy them anyway). Lemme know what you think of them, too.

Eternally grateful, and yours in caliber.

I had a set of AO big dot sights on my Ultra Carry, and loved 'em. Fastest, most accurate combat sights I've ever seen.

stainless should not be a biggie

The right sights will make a difference. My S&W 686 is plenty stainless, plenty fast, and plenty accurate.

The eyes should always "focus" on the front sight of any "iron-sighted" handgun . . . which means the target and the rear sight will not be as sharp. If one does not focus on the front sight it will result in lots of problems.

That being said, you shouldn't be paying attention to the color of the slide while shooting and, if you are, you aren't paying close enough attention to the all-important alignment of the front sight into the notch of the rear sight.

SUGGESTION . . .

You may light one of the new fiber optic front sights on the market. They glow brightly in the sun and thus help in drawing the eye to focus on the front sight.

Hope this helps . . .
