Oklahoma : "Unlicensed Open Carry" Passes House

What can be viewed as a good step in the right direction is an attempt to make Oklahoma permit-less open carry or as the article states. "Unlicensed Open Carry".

Oklahoma would join a host of other states that allow for open carry without a permit. So far the bill passed the House and now onto the Senate.

Good Luck to our friends in Oklahoma

"People who want to carry a gun openly would no longer need to obtain a license requiring training in how to handle the weapon under a bill approved by the House on Monday.

The House approved, 73-15, Rep. Jeff Coody's House Bill 3098. While loosening restrictions on open carry, it would maintain present licensing procedures for those wishing to carry a concealed gun."

Always good to see sanity and reason prevail. Now if we can just get lawmakers to make the jump in reason to just allow all methods of carry without a state issued piece of paper or plastic.
The trend is certainly shifting.

Was not that long ago....that OK passed legislation that allowed CCW permit owners to also open carry.....it is hoped that if the new "open carry" legislation....if passed....will lead to CCW concealed without permit as well....

Here is an update to this story.

'Oklahoma moves closer to adopting permitless open carry law'

Having passed the House previously, now it has passed the Senate this week by a 37-9 vote. Now it goes to a committee and then to the governor. I will try to update this whenever there is more information available on the bill's progress. If you live in Oklahoma, contact your governor and tell him to pass this bill.

"Coody’s bill, HB 3098, would grant a law-abiding citizen the protection under Oklahoma law to open carry a handgun without obtaining a Self-Defense Act handgun license which has been required since 2012. These permits cost $100 for five years and mandate eight hours of training.

The legislation will not change concealed carry laws in the state and permits will still be issued for those who seek them."
