What? Are you stupid? You must be stupid, right? Why do you have to ask??
:banghead: :banghead:

(This post is not meant as an attack on the original poster or any one else. This is tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic humor, that wouldn't be necessary if the question wasn't so freakin' stupid. Really)

I have recently lost all sentimentaltiy towards inanimate objects, well actually towards anything but my dog.

If money is an issue sell it if you think you can do better with the money from the sale.
They're just things are their value is as things.
If you leave these things to your heirs ,those bastards will probably just sell them anyway

But
There is no way in hell that I would trade any 1911 for an XD

My first gun is going to be buried with me. Period. I have enough guns that my family and friends can divide those up as they see fit, but that little pump .22 is going with me. Despite being a historian, I care not for the historical value and I have not now, nor shall I ever have kids to pass it on too. It's my gun, and its going with me at least for the first 6 feet of my journey into the afterlife.

I have recently lost all sentimentaltiy towards inanimate objects,

I am not at all sentimental about stuff either, much to my mothers dismay. Basically, my rifle and my marbles from childhood are the only two things that I am sentimental about.

Sell? What is sell?
Buy I understand, but sell?
Ohh yeah, that is what my wife will do when I am gone:D .
I really need to make a list of what I actually paid for these things so she doesn't sell them for what I "said" I paid for them;) .
Do not sell, especially not one like that (a Colt M1911--I got one from 1918 and I am still amazed that the parts from a modern one is interchangable with it--JMB was un-real). Keep it, send it to me.

They are no longer making 1911's from 1921 (No Duh) but they are still making XD's. IMHO I would hold onto the 1911 and save up for a XD.

Money comes and money goes. A couple hundred bucks is not going to get you out of a fiscal hard spot.

I've been down on my luck a number of times. A couple hundred bucks was like a cool drink of water in the middle of the desert. Nice and refreshing, but it doesn;t last long and it doesn't really solve anything.

Bender

You should post a picture of your pistol in question. It would be nice to see.

ok, I'll try a pic sometime soon. I'm not much on digital photography, though.

For anyone saying I'm crazy to trade it for an XD... I didn't ever say that... I said I wanted an XD AND something else....

There are a couple of reasons why it might be ok to sell that gun....

Does your wife need a kidney and you have emptied your 401K and sold the house and whored yourself on the street?

Does Osama Or the Medellin Cartel have your kid held hostage and is demanding that gun as the only acceptable ransom?

IF NOT then the answer is not just no but HELL no.

just off the phone with a cousin of mine trying to talk him out of a pistol i sold him20 years ago...if it works and has sentimental valu...keep it... by the way was a junky ild high standard 22..but was the first pistol that was mine to carry...and would like to have it back for my boys.... my rule [often broken] is to never sell just trade for another you end up doing stupid things with the cash like paying bills and taking the wife out to town..

Don't forget that your old gun is only going to go up in value and the new one will only go down.

Glad you decided to keep it. I own an XD45 and like it a lot, but I'd love to be able to own a piece of history like you have. Of coarse, if you cange your mind, let me know.

Don't do it. Money cannot replace centimental value. My dad gave me a .22 revolver when I got my LTC and he said "It's yours now to do what you want with it." I replied, "I'm keeping it." I will always have that gun because even if I found one like it, it's not the one.

Once it's gone it's gone, you will never replace it. Bust out an old coffe can, put $5 a week in it and if it takes you 4 years to buy a XD, so be it. Save your change, work a 2nd job, but once the old guns are traded/sold, you'll never get them back.

I still want my Colt, Springer and Series I Kimber back :banghead: <-- every day

I won't regret my lattest sale of my Springer GI, but I'll take it back for what I sold it if my buddy decides he's done with it. I still wish I had that Colt and it was a 60's model with no blue left on it. You don't know what I'd do for my Kimber Custom I back.

ok, but I have another gun I'm not really attached to... a Browning HP bought back around 1990 brand new. Have original plastic case, both original mags and all literature that came with it. Has been shot maybe 400 times. Been in my gun safe for 15 years. Still looks brand new.

I prefer shooting 45acp, maybe I can sell that BHP and use the money on a XD-45.

NO! Don't sell it. If you want another pistol, the XD45 Tactical is great! .I have one & I wouldn't let it go for anything. What you have is a valuable piece of history. Get a 2nd job, mow lawn's, deliver the Sunday paper, quit smoking. Anything to save up for another firearm. Just don't sell your 1911!

Keep it unless you need the money. I have a 1911 rem rand 1944 vintage
and I use it a lot some people say it decrease in value if you use it but I dont plan on ever selling it so someone else can worry about the value.

Absolutely DO NOT sell that gun.

I had some guns once and sold them to buy something else, I regret it to this day.

Years passed and.....

The second time I decided to be a gun owner I picked my first gun carefully. I own right at 28 firearms currently but the first was the most important.

Its my daily carry gun. A Kimber 1911, I carry it so much I have the finish worn clear off in places.

When my son gets old enough to carry a firearm (and if hes interested in doing so) I will take it out of my holster and give it to him.

I really wish I had the REAL first firearm.....but its gone. I actually know where its at and probably could get it back but the 1911 does more for me then a Glock 22 (my very first gun).
