I have something to share with those of us who are older, who's vision has gotten really bad, and is impacting our ability to enjoy the shooting sports. My vision has gotten really bad, so bad that I can't even make out the text on the TV, and it's a really big flat screen, everything has just been a big blur. And even if I put my 325 reading glasses on, it's still been very difficult to read or watch TV. Often times I use a magnifying glass just to read.

Anyway, about 2 weeks ago I decided to give "One A Day 50+" a try, not the name brand either, but the generic equivalent.. I really didn't expect anything special, vitamins are vitamins, right? What I'm about to share is amazing, I'm absolutely blown away. After just a couple weeks of taking these +50 One a Day vitamins, I can see, I mean really see. I don't have any problem reading the text on TV, not even on my much smaller one in the bedroom. I can see the sights on my handguns, and the target, something I haven't been able to do for about 15 years. It got so bad, that I have been wearing my reading glasses just so I could see the sights, but that meant the target would be really blurry, not any more, I don't need glasses for shooting at all now. I can even read my Bible without glasses, it's not perfectly clear, but just the fact that I can is almost unbelievable, and something that waved bye, bye long ago.

Now I realize that not everyone has the same vision problems, but for me this vitamin has been a God Send, and has already changed my life. For those of you that are in a similar boat as I, I recommend you give this vitamin a try.

Thanks for the information. I"m going to give it a try, as my eyes started to go a few years ago. I also have a hard time focusing on the front sight, which obviously makes it difficult to shoot accurately.

Lenscrafters, Green Vibrance....

I had a eye doctor in a upscale mall Lenscrafters hawk some eye health vitamins to me.
My vision is slowly going down the tubes. :(
She even said high definition LASIK might help but would not correct all my vision issues.
I was using www.greenvibrance.com for a few weeks. I saw a few + reviews of it. It's not for everybody. I might go back on it later when I can do more with the suggested program.
I might buy some One A Day Mens 50+ too. I like to use a multi vitamin.
Staying out of bright sun if you are a male over 40 is smart. Wearing hats or sunglasses if you are outdoors a lot can reduce strain/fatigue.

This one-eyed 67 year old iron sights shooter thinks you'd be better served seeing a qualified ophthalmologist. You could have an easily correctable condition that the optometrist at LENSCRAFTERS isn't trained to diagnose. Don't mess with your eyes.

I have been back and forth to eye doctors, but when I was presented with a waiver to sign, I decided to seek other options. If they can't at least promise me that my vision won't worsen the result of the procedure, ain't no way I'm letting them near my eye's.

In the mean time, if good old vitamins can help this much, I may not need to look any further, pun intended.:)

I take Jarrow Vision or Jarrow Vision Optimizer, and have for quite a few years.
It does help, both with general vision and night vision.
Not sure if my eyes have actually improved, but they certainly haven't gotten worse.
And that's a victory, for sure.

Vitamin C and B Complex together helps mine some. I take it before playing church softball. My ability to judge a fly ball and some ground balls went south around age 51. I stopped playing baseball after age 52 because of it.

It doesn't seem to help see the sights though. Good old red dot sights for that, or 1x reading glasses.

I finally 'bit the bullet' and got the Cataract Surgery my eye doc had been wanting me to get. Best thing I have done in years. Being on a good HMO plan made it 'no out of pocket' for me. I should have done it years ago. Eyes still aren't perfect, but going from about 20/200 to 20/30 in my right eye and good improvement in the not-so-bad left eye is fantastic. I still need close-up glasses for reading, as the surgery can be optimized for distance or close-up. Getting both is a lot more expensive, which I would have had to pay for. I am happy. I do still wear glasses for driving and shooting, but they are a lot thinner and lighter now!

I will try the vitamin too, just to see if it'll clear things up more. But I can now use iron sights again, which makes me a very happy shooter!

If your problem is cataract, it WILL get progressively worse and eventual blindness can result. :what:

True story!.....

My grandmother in western PA had cataract eye surgery about 6mo ago.
The procedures were successful & her vision/eye health improved greatly.
Oh & she is 105, :D .

It's never to late to start improvements to your health/well being.

I did things the old fashioned way and got glasses. Progressive bifocals helped me see better in all situations. I have been taking a full schedule of vitamins for years. It took several weeks to become fully acclimated to wearing the glasses.:barf: I had never worn glasses before. Shooting stayed the same. I can see the targets better though.

There are a couple of age-related vision problems for which older people should be checked by ophthalmologists.

First, cataracts. These affect almost everybody, eventually. The good news is that surgery (to remove the clouded lens and implant a new lens) is very effective and has become routine. I've had this done and it has made a world of difference.

Then, there is macular degeneration. Large doses of certain vitamins have been found to prevent or slow the progression of this condition.

The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) - sponsored by the Federal government’s National Eye Institute - has found that taking high levels of antioxidants and zinc can reduce the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by about 25 percent.

Laser treatments (controlled burns on the retina) may also be helpful in treating macular degeneration.

Acute (short term) impacts from supplements are almost certainly a placebo effect unless you had a serious deficiency (hard to manage is a Western country).

Are you diabetic? Vision can vary significantly with glucose (and eye sugar has a long time lag behind blood sugar).

No. I'm not diabetic, but I do have hypoglycemia, really bad too. When I have a blood sugar crash my vision goes south real quick and in a hurry.

Can I eat ice cream just untiI need glasses? :neener:

Seriously though, changing nothing other than adding vision supplements to my diet, my night vision went from danged near blind after dark to being able to safely drive after the sun goes down.
Don't think that is mind over matter.

As my vision got worse, my glasses prescription was changing too quickly. My last pair (before surgery) were less than a year old, and already doing me no good! A new prescription would have been no good in less than a year. So the cataract surgery became a necessity.
I too am 'borderline diabetic' so I keep an eye on blood sugar.
Color rendition is better, and things are a bit brighter. I was sunlight sensitive for the first few months, and wore sunglasses outdoors. My eye plan gave me a half-price deal on new glasses - two pair. I got the main pair with magnetic clip-on sunglasses, and the good reading glasses (so much better than the box-store cheapos!). Been over a year now, and no loss of vision quality. I find I do not need the reading glasses for online computer work, but do need them for reading books/newspapers. I can drive fine without glasses, but they do sharpen my vision making roadsigns clearer further away.
Shooting is so much better! No more shooting 'center of fuzzy mass'! ;)
I find handgun open sights are best without glasses. Rifle sights about the same with or without, though seeing the smaller and more distant targets is easier with glasses.

Good Grief Dude..

Have read dozens, if not over a hundred of your posts.
Tuned into this one because my eyes are also going south.

You talk as if finding miracles on one end of the spectrum is easy for you.

Yet also seem to run into almost unheard of bad luck far more than any one guy should.

Have also read enough of what you've posted to believe you're very knowledgeable on some subjects, but way too ready to buy into B.S on others. :)
