Hello everyone, just joined today and I have to say so far I really like the community of this site. I'm really new to guns myself, trying to follow a bit in my dads footsteps who was a gunsmith for our local police department for 20ish years.

Recently Ive been watching a lot of videos and reading up on refinishing guns that have seen better days (refinishing the stock, rebluing, etc)and today I've decided to give it a try for myself.

I found this older ERA 20 Gauge Single in the safe and since its in really bad shape, not worth much, and hasn't been shot in years I figured it would be a good gun to start on (if I muck it up I doubt I'll lose much sleep over it!) before moving on to guns that are of a bit more value. The only markings on it is the era engraving and "Made in Brazil by FIE For Miami FLA USA. I have a few questions about it and I was hoping maybe someone could help me out.

First, The outside of the barrel was quite rusted and after some cleaning its apparent that there is some pretty bad pitting going on. Does this pitting seem like I would be able to sand the majority of it out? Or possibly trying some durafill on it?

I plan on sanding down the stock and forgrip and using some minwax stain and true-oil, does that seem to be about the standard or does someone know of something better to use?

Just trying to get into restoring some beauty to guns that just dont have it anymore. Any help would sure be appreciated.

Edit: Figured out how to remove the stock, there was an odd extra piece of wood under the butt plate that was covering the hole for some reason.
