I have some 10+ year old powder. Are there any concerns with this, such as would the loads be different compared to the new load manuals. Should I pull out old load data. Thanks.

If you know for sure whats in the container, I would think it would be safe. Hell, Im shooting ammo thats been in storage since ww2...

the Nose Knows

Take a good hard smell of the powder and see if it has a very acrid smell or not. Powder that is too old and going or gone bad will often have a very different smell to it...It will leave a slight burning sensation in your nasal cavities. If so....burn it by pouring it out on the ground...Not in the container of course.
Otherwise load it and shoot it.

As for data being any different....Every updated loading manual seems to reduce the listed maximum charges....Just use common sense and good reloading practices by reducing your chosen load by 10% or more and working up .5 grains at a time watching closely for any signs of high pressure.

Recently loaded with some powders that my Dad had from 1967-1974. Excellent results. If it has been stored dry, it is probably fine.

If you are in doubt. Don't load it and don't burn it. Spread it over your lawn. Makes cood fertilizer...

I'm loading powder from the 1960s and it works good. If your powder was stored as it should be. It will be fine. Just make sure you know what's in the container...
