I've recently aquired an old S&W revolver that was my great grandfaters. It looks to be in pretty good shape and I have been trying to find out exactly what it is, but I couldn't find much online. I do know that it's a 38 special CTG. On the bottom of the butt of the gun, it says V 319460. That's about all I know. If you could give me any information, it would be much appreciated. Thanks

4th Model Hand Ejector produced from 1941 to 1945 for US Military and Civil Guard use during the war years.
This Model was advertised by S&W as the "Victory" model hence the V prefex to the serial number.

The guns were originally matte blued and later versions were parkarized and someone has refinished your revolver in nickle and gold, a very common postwar finish treatment for special guns.
I recently sold a set of Sanbar stag grip plates near identical to the ones on your revolver for $200.00 and truth be told, they are worth more than your revolver is in its current condition and finish.

Enjoy the gun for what it is, a personal link to a related individual.
