I shot some old powerful shells the other day, they had a lot of brass, were loud and kicked like a mule. Unfortunately now i have what seems like an etched burn in the barrels right where the cartridge explodes, no amount of cleaning seems to remove this residue, believe me i`ve tried....
is this any thing to worry about ?

How old? If you don't know, can you post pictures/descriptions of the shells and the headstamps? Plastic or paper hulls?

Going to make a guess and say lead fouling. If those shells were really old, they wouldn't have had a shotcup holding the pellets.

Shotguns aren't what you would call really fussy about clean bores and fouling. It's bothering you more than it is the gun. Ignore it.

The shells were called Remington express, extra long range with the new remington crimp.
they are green with a good third brass. They come in a green and red box.
thanks.

The fouling may be leading or plastic wad fouling if it is in front of the chamber in the forcing cone, or it may be wax residue left from the paper hulls & powder fouling if it is in the chamber itself.

But in no case did it make an "etched burn in the barrels".
Remington didn't stay in business 150 years by making shells that harm guns. Even years ago when they still made paper shells.

What you need to do is clean it correctly.
Use Nitro powder solvent, and a bronze bore brush on a cleaning rod, and it will come right out I betcha.

Leading and plastic wad fouling require more then a cloth patch to remove.
