Did all of the older (in this case 1952) Wingmasters have matching serial numbers on the barrel & receiver? The barrel on an older Wingmaster I have has a YY stamped on it, which I believe designates 1952. The reciever is old with the old wood on the stock & the roll grooved forearm. The metal on the barrel & receiver is the old gun metal gray. Someone recently told me the barrel & receiver should have matching serial numbers if made in the early 1950's. Others have said their older barrels don't have a serial number on the barrel. I know some older barrels have serial numbers on them, because I have a 1951 barrel I bought separately that has a serial number on it. thanks,

Neither of mine, 1950 and 1955, have serial numbers on the barrels, both of which I believe are original. The 50's code is WW.

Remington has not been totally consistent in markings over the decades.

IIRC, I've never seen a barrel with a serial number, but in truth I've not looked for them.

BTW, the blue on the 50 is thin but intact. Some blemishes on the 55's receiver, but surviving finish is deep blue.

HTH....

matching serial #'s

Thanks Dave. I went out again to the Remington aging site & it said the WW was for 1950, but the YY was for 1952.

You're welcome,sj.

No es importa, all early 870s are good. No bad vintages, as it were.

Enjoy yours....
