Older hydrashock

I just found a small supply of an older generation of Federal Hydrashock from when it was in the Hi-Power red box. Its 45acp 230 gr and has a truncated cone shape rather than the much more rounded shape that I am familiar with. I'm just curious about the whens and whys of the redesign.

If i remember right the federal rep that
came to the gunstore where i worked
said it was to increase reliabilty.
