well ya'll might not believe it, because heck i hardley do. i was comming toward the end of the range session and only had a little ammo left, 10rds to be exact. and after all the rds i had fired that day i still hadn't tried the "long" range stuff that i have been wanting to try.
Conducted With xd service model .40 and wwb 165gr fmj's
Shooting at e-tyoe shilloutes

1)so i started at 50yds from the prone position.i didn't know what the poi would be so i fired three rds center mass, then i fired two rds where the head and the shoulders of the target meet.

Result: the first three rds landed in a 4.5" group in the lower right corner of the 4 zone. this impressed me because i think that i am an average handgun shooter.
the 2 rds that followed landed center mass. in the 5 zone. so i have the 50yd figured out.

2) i then went out to 100yds. i had 5rds left and decided that i would use 4 rds to get the dope and figure everything out and my last shot would make me or break me.

Resulti aimed where i though it would hit, landed in the dirt, aimed higher, so forth and so on, i really wish i had a spotter, so one the 5th rd i had figured out that i had to aim at the top of the head to get a hit of anykind. when i went down rane i hooped and hollered for 10 minutes, i couldn't believe it, i hit it alright and hit it a little high of center mass in the 5 zone. :what: :D

here are some pics to show the results, and if anyone has any questions about the legitimicy of the claim there is a retired Major that witnessed the whole thing. as well as the sand torture test. i am still in shock!

There is nothing wrong with shooting handguns at long distances. I find it to be enjoyable while at the range. I typically set up a milk jug or something similar and shoot at that with my handguns and open sighted long guns towards the end of the shooting session too.

I can usually bounce that milk jug all over the place, which is a load of fun. Glad to find you enjoy it as much as I do.

Works out about the same for a 1911 .45 that's loaded with hardball, and zeroed for a center hold @ 50 yards. ;)

Practice a bit, and then sometime when you're at the range you can impress the crowd...

The "shoot at 15 yards" boys will go nuts.

Good shooting possum.
Keep shooting at 100 yards. You may be suprised how good you get.
And it helps your close in shooting to.:)

Shooting 100 yards is a lot of fun and suprising how well you and small guns will do.
Right now I'm working on keeping all 25-35 shots in the silouette while standing, using two hands, iron sights. I'm still averaging about one miss per magazine, sometimes better.

Long Range Pistol Shootin'

I use to shoot at 1 gallon (empty) paint buckets at 100 plus yards in my youth with a Remington Rand. (wish I still had it) It will make you really concentrate and make your upclose shooting better. I still shoot at 100 with a red dot sight. I always recommend to everyone who wants to be a good pistol shot to practice at long range.
Good shootin' possum, you too M2 Carbine.

I've told this story several times so I won't go into detail but about 1967 I had a Army helicopter student that was a chopper door gunner when shot down.
I read his very impressive Silver Star Commendation.

Before he and the injured pilot were relieved he killed a BUNCH of VC, using a 1911, out to a measured 97 yards.
(I don't remember the number of VC)

Now that's good long range shooting, when the targets are shooting back at you with AK 47's.

heck yeah that is awesome, not only are the targets shooting back at you, they are moving, their ain't no moving targets on my range! to bad though that might be a hoot.

thanks everybody, it was actually easier than i though it would be.

Btw good shooting m2 carbine. i bet i wouldn't hit paper at 100yds standing off hand, great shooting!
