I know these only require a $5 stamp instead of $200 like if you cut down the shotgun yourself, but do you have to go through the same long process when buying an AOW as you do for something like a silencer/machine gun? Or is this something you can just go into the gunshop, do the background check, pay the $5 ATF fee, and take it home with you?

I've considered selling some of my other shotguns and getting one of those serbu shorties (not because it's practical for anything, but because it looks cool and fun....and painful), but if it's something that requires the same lengthy hassle as other NFA stuff, then I'll just stick to what I got.

thanks

the $5 transfer tax is only for an AOW that was already registered, to make one it still costs $200.

same requirements as building sbr sbs on a form 1.

sorry I misread your question...

I have never transferred a AOW before but I'm pretty sure it goes on a form 4 like anything else that is already registered, which means it will take forever.

as far as walking out of a gun store with one same day, i would say no way..
