In 10 July, issue of Gun Week (www.gunweek.com)a front page item headlined House Passes National Police Off-Duty Carry, raises question as to messages, sent and the meaning thereof, in particular respecting messages sent to The Great Unwashed, they being the millions of law abiding citizens, who were never "government employees", that is Police or Law Enforcement Personnel, and who aren't now. By the way, The Senate has also passed such legislation, which according to a local newspaper, "has been sent to the president".
The message sent, perhaps inadvertently, perhaps not, but never-the less the message sent via this enactment is that the above mentioned MILLIONS OF CITIZENS, are somehow less trustworthy than the relatively few, who happened to have been or who might still be, cops. While both the foregoing and the following are arguable, it strikes me that this is absolutely the worst sort of message to send, yet that is exactly the message sent to us mere mortals, by the elevated persons that we perhaps unwisely send to the national legislature in Washington, D.C.
Possibly even more interesting than what this legislation covers, is the following. What special privileges might next be legislated for some favored group. Also, one wonders as to the loud silence from MEDIA re the blatant discrimination herein. What ever became of EQUAL PROTECTION OF THE LAW, among other protections that went who knows where? It has been noted, I think in error, that this grant of "special privilege" might serve to open the gates to national carry by those who hold state of residence issued carry permits or licenses. My take on that possibility, given the attitude already displayed by some police organizations, and or the leaders thereof is the following. DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH WAITING.
