Now and then I dream up something that actually works the way I intended on the first try. I like G2 Contender rifles but they are a bit of a pain to shoot from a benchrest, especially one with delrin for bottom and side rests. Enter in a piece of 1/4" x 2" 6061T aluminum bar stock, two little wood screws, one larger wood screw, a spare fore end, and some simple machine work. Now I have a basically flat, straight, level, solid shoe to fit the rest and it's easily switched between barrels. I took it to the range yesterday and gave it a workout. Happy, happy, happy with the way it performs.

All wasn't roses. I also modified an idea I stole off this forum to clamp my spotting scope on the bench I use and do away with it's tripod. It's a good tripod but the fact remains that it's a tripod. The clamp thing was tested yesterday and was a bust for the time being and I switched back to the tripod. I haven't made up my mind whether to put more thought into the clamp or just live with the tripod. A HEAVY base with a fluid camera head attached or maybe a ball head mount comes to mind also. I have both of these devises to try out and will probably take that road instead of the clamp thing.
