Just spent one of the best afternoons at the range, ever.
Took along my first rifle, a Remington 514 single shot .22 that was my 12th birthday present. It probably hasn't been shot in this century, though after today I can't imagine why not. Sadly, the sights are obviously defective, as they are very fuzzy compared to what they were when it was new, but the gun still does its part.
The whole day was spent shooting without looking through optics, and though the groups weren't as good as some, it was nothing but fun.

The group on the left is Federal Automatch, on the right is CCI Minimags, 25 yards, elbows on bench. The results are pretty comforting for fortysomething year old eyes over open sights.
BTW, the gun cost $20.50 new.
