One Awesome Week!

Yesterday put an end to one of the most deer filled weeks that I have ever had. Hunted 4 out of 5 afternoons and saw from 8 to 20+ deer every trip. Deer to the left of me. Deer to the right. There were deer everywhere. Bucks chasing does. Does chasing does. It was awesome. Finally a nice 9 point slipped in on me right at last light. A 300 gr XTP thru his boiler didn't stop him from going 100 yards but he fell 50 yards from the truck.

I have chased whitetails for nearly 50 years and have taken a tractor trailer load of them, but this has got to be the wildest week that I have ever witnessed.

Guys and gals, you need to get out there.

Sounds exciting. Glad you had fun! I've been there, Llano, Texas. Deer everywhere you looked. Also a ranch near here I took a doe hunt for 50 bucks on just for the meat, were thinning the doe. Just drove down the road looking at 12 pointers with 24" spreads and such and the guy would say "Oh, THAT one will be nice in a few years." I was in an out of there in 45 minutes with a gutted doe. LOL! No high fence, either. Amazing.

Good for you! I really envy you. When I used to live in South Texas, I saw also of animals - deer, javelina, ram, aoudad ands lots of hogs! I then moved to WA state. This is my first deer hunting season. I was out 3 days staright and saw more hunters than deer.

Here in NE Kansas, though not hunting deer this weekend, I saw lots of deer including a very nice 8 pt buck. Could have killed him with my .22, he was so close. I hunt squirrels in one of the best places around. Saw maybe 20 deer, a bunch of turkeys, and many squirrels. This year I have killed 10 squirrels. I has been grand in the woods and tasty eating at home. Glad to hear you are having a good year.

Ok, so where do you live?? I haven't seen a single thing all bow season.

I've seen three and season ain't even started. Of course, they were on the highway covered with buzzards.

What kind of gun and what caliber??

What kind of gun and what caliber??

Our bow season opened 9/15, a special doe only season in certain zones 10/13 and our black powder was last week. I was using a 50 Cal Ruger 77 inline. 300 gr SST or XTP 's shoot very well in it.

Modern gun starts in nine days and I am nearly out of tags. May have to go to Missouri.

Hunted Llano as a kid, lots of deer, but most were not very big size wise. Aslo seems that they congregate on the golf course near the river bed (guessing its still there).
