One Handgun a Month in PA

HOLY CRAP.:fire: , Although I read the article/toilet paper, I couldn't find where a penalty would be imposed on the seller.

A) Call your legislative critters, especially those on judiciary
B) Don't panic, PA shows a great deal of sense in refusing to enact every piece of gun bigotted dog poop it comes across.

One gun a month was rejected by the governor's gun violence committee, but the change of dangerous weapon definition is more insidiuous and might slip under the radar.

I'm from PA. And I hope like hell neither of these get passed. I know PA shows a great common sense, but I don't want to become the next Cali.

I'm currently at college in Williamsport.

When I graduate, I was thinking of going into the Army. Or even move to Texas.

If PA passes these, then expect me to come to Texas. Anybody got a couch for me? LOL.

Referred to judiciary:

SB1002

Also, expanding on the definition of 'dangerous weapon': SB1003

Silence implies consent.

1002: "...providing for a limit on handgun purchases and sales..." should be rapidly followed by other such bills: 1003: Limiting condoms to one (1) a month, 1004: Limiting beer to one (1) a month, 1005: Limiting tires to one (1) a month, and 1006: Limiting books to one (1) a month=> To show the absolute hypocrisy of such an asinine law to limit acquisition of commerical products in a democracy~! I'd love to see a limit on morons in the Pennsylvania government: Now there's where such a limitation could actually help!

the penalty is provided for in section d.1.

the offense is graded as misdemeanor 3rd degree. repeat offense is a felony 3rd degree. both of which statute allows a range of cash penalties for under penna law, subject to judicial discretion.

this bill (sb1002) will never pass. it's a feelgood piece of toilet paper that candidates for re-election will quote in the next race, and use against each other, both ways.

sb1003, i have no problem with.

Just call your legislators and tell them that SC just did away with this silly @$$ law, and PA doesn't want to be behind SC in common sense! :D

The "logic" behind these one gun a month laws is that it cuts down on straw purchases.

Since we already have laws against straw purchases, laws against criminals having guns, criminals commiting crimes and finally criminals commiting crimes WITH guns......what the heck is another law going to do?

I like the idea of one gun a month. The only issue would be where I would store the guns, since that's 12 guns a year! And do I get to decide which kind? I welcome the state of PA's foresight and hope that such a law comes to my state soon. But it won't.

You are obviously joking......

Yeah, right now I can't financially justify buying one a month, but hey, if it's the law, whaddya gonna do? It's gonna be twelve a year, whether I can afford it or not. :)

Seriously though, PA is usually pretty reasonable about gun laws, at least compared to some other much-maligned states which shall remain nameless herein. Hopefully enough of us here in PA will let our legislators know that this is a non-starter, and it will crash and burn.

The PA Constitution contains one of my favorite formulations recognizing the pre-existing right to self-defense through the use of arms:
Section 21. The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.

since where "in" to limits on Rights...how about one can only say 500 words per month............wait....I'm married......I ...I ..see...the logic...in this.

seriously PA watch out ...this is a first cut in the dead by a thousand cut model. 12 guns a year not so bad.....soon two a year....soon guns are just to dangerous for you to have.

Wait, you mean they're not going to pay for my one gun a month? Then forget it. I knew it sounded too good to be true. :D

The law, as it stands, will feed the black market. Simple economics. More gun control = more black market. There's no way around that.
What we need to do is to somehow slide a modification to the bill so that it states that all Pennsylvania residents are required to buy at least one handgun per month. Most won't even know until it passes.

In all seriousness, I could see some merit in requiring that all persons of legal age not religiously opposed to doing so be required to keep at least one military-style weapon for the purpose of the defending themselves and the Commonwealth. That said, since that's not gonna happen, I'll settle for the mostly live-and-let-live system we have now.

According to a poll I heard quoted on the radio the other day, 2/3 of Pennyslvanians don't have a gun, and a roughly similar proportion are in favor of at least some additional gun control. That's scary. As usual, it's Philthydelphia that skews the numbers to the left more than any other part of the state.

Pensylvania is becoming more liberal. As more people move into the state from surrounding New Jersey and New York, the state, especially the eastern part is becoming another northeast bastion of liberalism. As the hunting culture also declines, I am concerned PA will become another NJ, NY, MD, etc. Keep up the fight guys!

Some stranger calls you on the phone and asks if you have a gun? What would you say?

C'mon!

I have to call shenanigans on that number.
It was quoted by Terry Madonna, a regular guest on the TV and radio shows around these parts. He insisted the numbers were accurate when questioned by the host, but I don't have a source for the poll, or any indication of sample size, questions used, etc.

Incidentally, I just called Senator Pat Vance's office (my local member of the State Senate) to urge her to vote no. The District Office rep offered to inquire on the Senator's views, and call me back. I'm curious to hear what she has to say.

All y'all in PA: my sister-in-law used to work in the District Office for a member of the Pennsylvania House. She said that every call from a constituent was taken seriously. On little issues they recorded comments and passed them on piece-meal to the Rep. On big issues they kept tally boards of those in favor and opposed. They only counted calls/letters from constituents within the Rep's district.

I say: "Yes, and I will use it to defend myself and my family if need be." Sounds a lot better than: "No, I'm defenseless. I urge you, Mr. Complete Stranger, to come and rob my home and attack my family."

Just to answer your question.
