Even if they're *only* as large as my hands, eco friendly, timid, shy, non biting hippy pacifist spiders,

They're pretty much the only plausible reason you'll ever hear me shrieking like a girl, firing wildly into my sleeping bag, and screaming for more ammo!
 
Yes, that's two of them mating. You can see their real size based on the the 1SG's sleeve. It looks like they're probably about 5 inches each.

They do bite, but rarely. They're not venomous or poisonous whatsoever. The biggest danger (other than pain) is the bite getting infected.
 
As noted, the sleeve is the clue to the perspective on size. They are, indeed, about the size of a person's hand; more like the size of a saucer than a dinner plate.
 
I got the exact picture from a friend of mine in Iraq and posted it in the hunting forum.(i don't know why i put it there). It seems this pic is making the rounds.
They are nasty, I give'm that.
