Howdy,

It's been too long since I posted on THR, I miss it haha. Yesterday I had my CHP course at a local gun range. In my state it's mandatory and, having passed everything, I need only to go to the state patrol office and pay them for the permit.

The class was really helpful. The shooting part I had down well enough but I was very pleased with the afternoon "classroom" session where we talked laws and such. It really eased up my mind and I'm glad I went with this particular range. The instructor was knowledgeable and just seemed like a good guy.

Hopefully soon I can get into the State Patrol office and finish stuff. Man, it's been so long since I shot and it felt great yesterday.

Sweet deal man!

Sounds Iike your class was very similar to my experience. It was very helpful. When I took my class the main focus was understanding the law and what it takes (in NY) to justify using lethal force to defend yourself or others. They did go over safety,handling and had a short shooting session. But most of the class went over the law and made us understand it.

Great news. The more responsible concealed carriers we have, the better.
I am lucky. Here in Pennsylvania you go the county sheriff's office, fill out the application, pay the money and they run a background check. If the background check is OK, they take your picture and make the permit right there. It takes 15 or 20 minutes at most and you walk out with the permit. It's $25 for 5 years

Congrats!

I'm not up on mandatory classes for licensing, as my State doesn't require them, but it sounds like you had a very good experience. {I have taken a couple of handgun courses of my own volition}

Carry in good health!

This week I went to the state patrol and got er done. Turns out I got a free gun from gssf so maybe I’ll get myself a nice carry piece for warmer weather. Right now I’ve got the g23 but I’ve got my eye on a g30s. Today I figure I’ll go to the gun shop and see how they all feel and go from there. 6 weeks until I’m able to exercise the freedom of concealed carry.
