Online auction problem: scam?

Not that people aren't also awful (and man, I read the reviews of the Little John place!) but in my large metro area, I know of ONE place that still does transfers at all (many who know me by name are just NO anymore) and doesn't rape you on cost. Just about to send an SMLE to someone (waiting for payment) and they charged me $55 for it all (box, paper postage). Thankfully.

Well the wheels are turning and waiting to hear back from the police but at this point even if I got raped on shipping I would feel pretty good after all this just to get that rifle in my hands !!!! May put it up on the mantle as a reminder . And yes sometimes I don't understand how some places can charge such high prices for shipping , highest I got charged once was $85 bucks for a rifle . I have sold and shipped a few firearms myself and think is was around $40.00 but been awhile . For giggles and grins I called Little Johns this morning and was surprised a living , breathing human being answered the phone . I gave them the sob story and he told me "I will get on this and get back to you ASAP " . I almost laughed at that . And I never saw this coming but he never got back to me today surprise , surprise !! What a learning experience this has been .

Well another chapter in this great mystery . I don't know if it was Proxibid contacting them for me on Feb 29 or the fact I filed a police report March 4 but got a email from Little Johns saying they never got any emails or voice messages from me and are just waiting on FFL info . Ok . I emailed them back and said I don't want to get into a he said she said thing but will get FFL resent by email and fax immediately and to please contact me letting me know they got it . I went to my FFL dealer and stood next to him double checking email address and fax number . After not getting contact by LJ by this afternoon I emailed them asking if got the FFL . Little bit later got email saying no . ??? I had my FFL guy email his stuff and I emailed it to LJ . I called and wow got answer and asked to please check email for FFL . Was told the rifle had been shipped the 5th and was given track# !!?? Said why was I emailed today saying they didn't get it . Was told something about 1 place ships & another sells or something . If dealing in person at store LJ is probably nice folks but totally unorganized everywhere else . Wow what a mess . Stay tuned for the next exciting episode and hopefully final one . Rifle should be in 10-11th .

Got one more about 1 hour after last email from Little Johns got another one and a phone call . Was at ball game and could not answer but voice mail and email said I needed to pay for shipping before rifle can be sent . It's supposed to be in route already , got a tracking number showing it's headed my way . I emailed them back asking why cause the should still have my info from when paid for the rifle and it's shipped "already" . I have not heard anything back yet (normal) and before I give my payment info a second time will wait to see invoice first and see if it shows a shipping charge first . Hopefully will get one with the rifle when it gets here . May call bank Monday to double check . I don't mind paying it just want make sure don't get charged twice .

All things considered it appears that , rather than being the victim of a scam you are stuck dealing with people who are extremely inept.

It's good that the vendor is not intentionally trying to rip you off , but at the same time the customer service represented by your saga would disqualify them as a viable seller for most or all of us.

Yes that is what I said going to their store they are probably nice folks but communication and everything else when shipping is just plane horrible . But I did go pick up the Lee Enfield today so finally after 12 of the longest weeks of my life it's over with . Only thing left to do is to check the shipping charge and get it strait . I have not had a chance to check with my bank to see if any current withdrawls have been made or not . The invoice that came with the rifle did not show a shipping charge on it . If I do owe them that I will pay it evan after all this mess . Hopefully it will be reasonable some places are out right crooks when it comes to that . My wife the comedian asked if she was going to have to share our bed tonight with the rifle . Honestly , she just might .
