Untrendy Cost- $60 or under including shipping.
Untrendy Metal.- 1085 series carbon steel
Untrendy Trendiness- Negative score on the Ninja/Combat!/Tactical Meter.

Excellent "Primative Bowie/ Sheffield -Wilkerson pattern knife with ten inch blade/ 14" thick at the back and a bot 2.25" wide. It came sharp from the box but I spent a couple of hours putting less angle to the bevel and stoning the edge. It is now, in addition to being a good chopper, a good whittler and it will mow the hair from your arm or leg very readily.
Being a bit less hard than the trendy norm ( tables claim this grade steel hardens to a max of 55 rockwell C,} it will be easy to touch up the edge in the field . African game cleaners much prefer their carbon steel skinning knives to the foo-foo, 60 rockwell jobs safari clients often bring over to let them test.

Untrendy Cost- $60 or under including shipping but the grin factor is close to redline.

Untrendy Metal.- 1085 series carbon steel but it wasn't purchased to chop the doors off a Buick duce 'n' a quarter.

Untrendy Trendiness- Negative score on the Ninja/Combat!/Tactical Meter but Jim Bowie didn't claim to be a ninja anyway.

Congrats on the new knife. I'm in the same boat. While I do own some knives made of Uber-Steel that will apparently chop through bank vaults, I still like my Becker BK7. I've used it for four years now and it just doesn't give up.
Maybe I'm not using it right because I can't seem to break it into small pieces. :(

;)

Yes indeed. I love untrendiness.
"Jim Bowie didn't claim to be a ninja anyway.
... In fact, the knife he used on the sandbar looked exactly like grannie's butcher knife but he still managed to split the guy from pyloric secum to sigmoid flexure.
