I was wondering what you other hunters use( if anything) to reduce your human type stink in the woods. I wonder if my personal aroma is the reason deer seem to stay away from me. I have seen shampoos and sprays in the stores.

I have some sent blocker spray that i put on my hunting clothes.

What do you use

I use Scent Killer. I use it fairly often also, several times a day when its warm. I also like to widdle on a peice of cedar and keep that same peice with all day. Does this work I think so, but I am sure others will have different ideas. When I bowhunt or hunt in really thick woods I always pay very close attention to my wind and be as scent conscience as I can.

Its amazing, when you start paying attention to it, all the stuff we've been bamboozled into buying! When bowhunting, I shower with scent-free soap and use it for shampoo as well,...baking powder for toothpaste. Dedicated hunting clothes get a scent-free wash, hung out to dry, and storage in an airtight container with some "woods stuff" (pine or balsam boughs, etc....'local' stuff). On stand I use no cover scents, figuring anything that smells as strong as commercial scents to me must be outright shocking to a deer. I'll often stuff a crushed balsam branch in my pocket, or have rubbed an apple against the rough bark of the tree I'm in (again, if there are apples locally). Hunting clothes do NOT get worn in the house, while frying bacon in the morning, etc. I do not use any spray on my clothes (scent or UV killer). I can honestly say that I cannot recall any instance of being "busted" scent-wise while on stand (elevated 18-25ft), even with seemingly unfavorable wind conditions. Probably overkill, but kind of a fun part of the game.

I just spray my boots and coveralls with coon pee.

Hahahahahah.......HAAAA!
You made me, my boy and nephew (both are almost two) laugh.

Hunt the wind. My dad even smokes up in his tree stand. My BIL chews dip and spits out of his tree. I use the same shampoo and soap that I always do. Find a trail the deer are using and set up down wind of it. Try to stay off of the trail when you walk in if the deer are going to be coming from that direction. Also try to be as still as possible unless you have good cover. Oh, and hunt the wind.

When i was outfitting, one old guide made the ultimate quote that i live by today.

"The wind is in yer favor, or it aint, and aint nutten gonna fix that"

Pretty sure its dead on accurate too, least here. Only place i could see any need for scent reduction would be in a tree with a bow for whities, maybe it would help, but i know i wouldnt waste my money on it.

my son and I used fox wiz as a cover scent onr year. sprayed it on our boots before walking in. for hatever reason we had numerous times times, does trailing us right to our trees. I had three doe at the bottom of my tree like hound dogs one night. I dont usually hunt does so I quit using it.

I use nothing, and the guys I hunt with use nothing. They smoke more than anyone and most days we eat chili and deer sausage for breakfast. They all get deer each year, sometimes nice 10 or 8 points, sometimes just a doe. Just pay attention to the wind and you'll be fine.

"Hunt the wind" I say and cover sent helps. If you are set up with the wind at your back or it's blowing in the direction that the deer are comming from you'll most likely get busted. A climbing stand helps if you can get up to 20 feet or so, but use a safety harness.

oooohhh that smell cant you smell that smel.....oops sorry guys im a fan lol

i have this plan that if i dont hower for about a week before deer season then my bo may resemble that of i wild animal

so no i dont bother with scent control stuff people hunted for millions of years without it so why should i

in the past years, not much. this year i am going to try something different. besides showering in the morning like usual, i am going to sprinkle my mid layer garments with arm and hammer baking soda. it is supposed to absorb odors, i will see. my outer layers get washed in no scent stuff. then they go into a no scent bag along with pine, cedar, and a few other misc branch boughs. i try to give them a natural scent as much as possible. also stuff your boots with the same stuff inside of a old t shrit. everywhere you go, your boots leave a scent trail. when i used to work as a mechanic, there was no way to get the chemical smell out of me and my skin without taking a couple of weeks off before season. so then, there really wasnt much point. it was simply, if they were down wind, they were gone.

just a quick add on, a good inexpensive way to be certain of the wind direction is a peice of sewing thread tied to a tree or bush branch near enough for you to see. but if the wind is 15 mph+, there really isnt much need.

I use scent killer on my clothes. I always buy the autumn leaves scented bottle because it "fits" with most of the places I hunt. More important than using scent control products is using the wind to your advantage and staying quiet. Those two things alone have been working for people for thousands and thousands of years.

No matter what I smell like, I've always had the best success simply hunting into the wind. "Windicator" is the best way I've found to do it.

I don't use anything. I just hang 2 scent bombs, one on each side of my blind and I seem to do fine. Plus, as others have said, I pay attention to wind direction and go to my other blind if need be.

Just a thought.

Here we are using all kinds of scent killers, plus soaps and sprays. Then we carry a nice smelly rifle that is covered with oil and maybe has a little Hoppes #9 still in it somewhere.

Hmmmmm :D

Oh, THAT smell.....
Camped out onna mountain top, spotting for Wolves at -30?....like gettingh home and not having washed in two weeks, and only having one extra set of clothes to change into, alternating days, as one set dries, and all you socks are as streached as possible. "THAT" smell?

Well if theres some nice hides in the sled when I walk in the door, I still get lots of kisses:neener:

"Ah wash 'bout once a year, even if I dont need to"
From The Mountain men.....~LOL~

I use a scent killer spray and I wash with sent killing soap and shampoo. I'm also aware of where the wind is coming from. I had a buck walk almost right up to my stand while bow hunting. Needless to say I put an arrow through him.

I don't use anything...at least not any sprays.

I usually throw a small piece of cedar into the plastic bin I keep my hunting clothes and boots in, which gets any "human-y" scent out. I try to keep smoke from the cabin fire away from them by stashing them in the bin between hunts. I also only wash the clothes in warm water (no detergent) and try to keep my own stank to a minimum with lukewarm showers and no deodorant.

After watching dozens of deer mill about directly underneath my tree stand, including the path I walked into it, it seems to work for me.
