How many people have bought a firearm based off of "Oooooo Factor"?
You know, looks really good or is very powerful but no real practical use.
Can't really be carried or not even as reliable as you would like but you
just had to have it.

I have a BFR .45-70 but around here there is nothing that a .44 can't
take down. Too big to be a CCW and a lot of ranges will not even let
me shoot it. Its a great gun and very accurate, just not practical.

Somebody does, otherwise who's buying all these pistol-caliber carbines? :neener:

OK OK I confess, I almost bought a Beretta Storm when they came out

And I still do want a tommy gun.

Saw photo of the Mossberg 590 AOW 12ga. Had to have it.
6 months of federal NFA paperwork.
No practical purpose, huge, irresistably cool.

Saw an NAA Mini Revolver (.22LR). Tiny. Cute.
Bought it a month later to stop me from wanting it all the time.
No practical purpose, terribly inaccurate, irresistably cute.

My dream gun. Give me a Thompson and a HD 1938 80" Flathead and I would be happier than a lone rooster in a full henhouse.

I think my short-lived experience with a Century FAL was one of those. I have absolutely no reason to have one. My Garand fills the same niche and I don't shoot that very much. But something about it made me go "oooo" and put the debit card down on the counter. Even knowing the stories about Century I still did it. Now I'm resisting ordering a G1 from DSA.

Let's see, I guess the .50 Beowulf AR and FN-49 puts me on the list. The pistol caliber carbine is actually of use, I keep it in the briefcase with four 30 round mags.

Spas 12

It has the nuttiest load and fire procedure. You literally need 3 hands.

But man it looks cool and I can fire of 9 2oz slugs in under 3 seconds

I have one gun for "no real practical use".

.50AE Desert Eagle.

Too big, too expensive, ammo cost too much and definately not my most reliable gun. But it is a ton of fun to take to the range. I've never regretted buying it.

Ack. You have to factor in the historic significance of the gun! If it's just about niche nearly all my guns are useless LOL!

oooooo factor?

Maybe not OOOOOOO to ya'll, but when I was in the market for a carry sized .45, I was all set on a G30, then I wandered over to the Springfield-Armory cabinet and saw a stainless Champion, I had to have it.
Sounds like just good old common sense to me.

i desparetly want:
an AR-15
an FAL
an M1
an M1 carbine
an SKS
and god willing a bolt action 50.

That's what did me in the first time on the Century FAL, I mean, it was part of history! Then I realized that it actually was a lousy built gun with an lobotomized semi-automatic reciever and a mixture of imported and US made parts, some of which were once part of a historically significant FAL battle rifle.

Now my Garand is made up entirely of original US GI parts in the same configuration that it came out of WW2 in. It also shoots a full power round very similar to the FAL and I already have it. So any niche that the FAL would fill would be sentimental, and it has to work to reach that level.

Now don't get me wrong, I have an Arsenal USA AK-47 that is the same type of rebuild as the FAL, but the difference is it works. ;) And I'm still lusting after a DSA G1, so consistency isn't my strong point.

Never mind me, I'm bitter right now, but it'll go away with my next purchase. :) Actually I just bought a Hi-Power and it's great therapy.

10 1/2" AR-PDW build, I am still recovering from the $650 account buster....

But I saw it, new the contraversy about them, and had to have one...Now it serves a purpose(PDW with parts and ammo commonality with the M4), but it was BUILT for the ,"OOOOOOOOO!", factor/taboo nature of the beast...Now that I see that it is basically a 24" long(breaks in half nicely for transport), armor piercing semi-auto smg, it was the best $650 I spent!!!:D...Minute of B/G out to 200yds is easy....You can keep your SBR's, I'll keep what I got(well maybe sbr the Bushie M4 in order to use all length uppers on either weapon, hmmm)... Too Many Choices!?

not me !

I guess that my Ooooooo Factor gun has alway been the Desert Eagle. I wanted one since they first came out in .357Mag. I eventually picked up one in .44Mag and i rarely shoot the bloody thing. Same thing with my Ruger SRH .454. I'm not a handgun hunter, and the friggin' thing is a bit much for home defense, but I got one anyway.

I bought an HK SL8 because it looked like a prop from a low-rent SciFi movie.$1200 was a bunch for something that feels like a Supersoaker but it shoots fairly well.Bought another product from Oberndorf on the same principle too years ago but the VP70 wasn't that much fun to shoot.

Barrett 82A1 - at the top end of what I would consider an ultimate CQB gun, "Close Quarters Brutal."

Aside from the ooooo factor and recreational shooting, it has be most effectively used as a tree toppler. One or two shots to the base of a tree 10" in diameter or less and either the tree falls right away or is eventually toppled by a stiff breeze.
