There's been some discussion about where your rights end and the arm of the law begins. This story seems to shed some light on the subject.

Here's the link:

(I'd suggest you disregard the part of the article that deals with Scott Bennet, who was and remains just plain weird.)

Bottom line: Until the law or the regulations are changed, you're looking at some serious trouble if you get caught carrying on most military installations.

There seems to be a lack of common sense (or maybe common knowledge?). I just assumed it was pretty basic knowledge that firearms were prohibited on Federal property (unless you take the extra steps required to obtain permission for them) and in New York City. Guess it isn't such common knowledge after all, though.

That's pretty funny, since MacDill is 'Snake-eater Central' -- USSOCOM HQ. Those gentlemen are known to carry on occasion.

But .mil is kinda fussy.

(I actually lived on base at MacDill when I was a kid; dad was USAF O3 at the time.)

Undergoing due process for security clearance eligibility? Yeah, good luck with that. I hope he has a career plan B.

technically it isn't NO guns, just they have to be declared and processed IAW the base commanders orders (which may be a U turn with it walked out to you once you cross that invisible line....)

I really wish mil bases would allow a way for CC people to secure their gun at the gate, with the guards, and then pick it up when you leave.

That said, you have to live under a rock not to know you shouldn't bring a gun to a mil base.

They also should let their men and women in uniform walk around with a sidearm, but that's a different topic entirely.

I've been on most of the bases here in the US...they're all pretty well marked and posted with signs saying whats not allowed...at least at the truck entrance.

Its government property...it should go without saying that its a "gun free zone".
