protests, marches and days of rememberence of all varieties occur on a regular basis. some are worthwhile, some we fully disagree with, some are simply wastes of time. after reading some threads on here, specifically concerning the common theme that our government in a thousand different ways continues to push limits with populace, seeing what it can get away with, or just outrightly disregarding public will, what would be an appropriate response to remind the government not only that the populace is armed, but that at least part of it is vigilant as well.

many states have laws that permit open-carrying. what do you think the response would be to a coordinated 'open-carry day' across the US, of course in states that permit it? the numbers that could potentially participate would be overwhelming.

if not that idea, how about national firearm cleaning day, where gun owners across the country take out their guns and clean them in the front yard at an appointed hour? that's a little jokey......sort of;)

2nd of each month.

I like the idea of open carrying on the 2nd day of each month, not my idea, just what I have heard has been practiced in the last few years. Of course I really don't need a special occassion to OC and do it most any time I choose to.

Everyday is open carry day around here. At the store, gas station, even the post office. So far nobody has said a single thing to me about it.

i understand all of the enthusiasm for open carrying whenever the urge hits you. i was more interested to know what everyone would think the response would be on a national level, if there was a coordinated 'open-carry day', when even those who normally don't, would.

2 things...

First, people might look at you different...(look at that crazy guy that carries a gun around!!!)
Second, Even though some people would look at you funny, they might realize all of a sudden how many "normal" (and im not saying ANY of you are normal  ) people out there actually DO carry a gun. Overall I believe if EVERYONE were to do it, it would turn to be a good thing.

I agree that this would be a good thing. But in my case I would lose my CWP. I think all states should allow open carry and I believe it would cut way down on crime.

Open carry creeps my out, probably still carry IWB too, but I'm game if it gets noticed. However I doubt any local or national TV or Radio will do a story... Someone name a date and I'll do it.

I like this idea - one day a year for blissninnies to see how many "harmless" coworkers, friends, family and acquaintances have been packing heat all along!

An "Open Carry Day" would probably open a lot of eyes, since most CCWers carry concealed. There are a lot more of us out there than most people think (whether through ignorance or wishing it were so).

I'm currently stuck in Kalifornistan (as well as underage for CCW :barf:) but I'm on my merry way to escaping to Oregon; be there by March or so next year. I'm the type who'd get a big yellow FEBRUARY 2ND - NATIONAL OPEN CARRY DAY t-shirt made up for the occasion... :p

How about February 2nd, being the 2nd day of the 2nd month? Anyone know when the first (modern, I guess) open carry law was passed? Maybe we can do it then.

Open Carry

More people would likely realize that open carry is legal, and that there is a populous which exercises its Constitutional Rights daily without concern for "political correctness". Some may be persuaded to join in, while others will push for "reform" (bans :barf: ).

February is not really optimal

Open carry becomes a less convenient option when its cold enough to neccesitate a winter coat. Summertime is better and will get more participants I think.

Open carry meetups

I should also add that many of us from opencarry.org have been holding open carry meetups around Virginia. At our last one this month we had around 20 people OCing at the restaurant we were at. No problems at all.

How about an open carry parade down Pennsylvania Ave hitting all the usual spots – Just like the civil rights marches of the past – the white house, supreme court, capitol hill.

Wait – I forgot, in DC we would all be arrested for violating the unconstitutional DC gun ban. Picture it though – that would be one spectacle of civil disobedience.

There really isn't such a thing that I know of - open carry of a sidearm is simply one of those things (you know, like walking down the street or eating a sandwich or wearing blue jeans;) ) that is not against the law in many states.

How about a march of people wearing tank tops, etc ... reminding the barons in the District of Criminals of our Right to Bare Arms...?:D

Or more seriously, an empty holster march

I've mentioned this before, and someone else has too. We didn't have the time or contacts to organize it, but it's a great idea. Had some support offered from the Pink Pistols as well, which would certainly help make the point more than a bunch of straight white guys.

Those who can't legally open carry can wear empty holsters as a sign of solidarity. That'd be me.

OK:) I'll be on base then.

i know it would be cold in places, but the 2nd of february would be a great, symbolic date. it wouldn't take much. start talking about it now, to everybody, like it's already a done deal. people WILL hop on board. if 20 or 30 of us here say it's in the books, and commit to it, it'll catch on fast.

i love the idea of making t-shirts. let's here some more ideas.

well, there's like 6 or 7:D get some t-shirts done and mass email your friends. february 2nd 2007. open carry day. maybe we can go from 7 to 7,000,000. what about trying to arrange being 'out' at 2 p.m.? like agreeing to try to take lunch and eat out at that time, so as to have as many as possible in public view at one time?

Every time I grab a bite to eat around here I have to open carry.

On a more organized front, VCDL has an open carry outing to a local restaurant at least once a month.

That’s funny tallpine, an empty holster march.

How about a march of with empty holsters and everyone’s signs covered up as well – meaning with no Second Amendment rights, the First Amendment rights may be next to go.

Once you take away the sword, it is easy to take away the pen.
