Open Carry In Your State?

Whats odd about this map? The 2 gray states. Land of nuts and fruits with illisnoooois right behind it. Two more years and we'er outta here. Maybe The Great State of Texas!

Texas doesnt have OC. honestly, if you want a very good state with gun laws, I vote alaska, vermont, or Louisiana....not many things I love about my home state, but I am lovin the gun laws, OC no permit, 18 to own, 18 to OC, shall issue permit, we are currently at a 50/50 split house vote on CCW on campus. only a couple of stupid things to change, like no OC inside of 1000 feet of a school

also, can carry in vehicle on employers property now, castle doctrine, lethal force for threat of loss of life LIMB or EYE (you can go into lethal force without being under threat of loss of life, state views threat of any form of permanent disability grounds for lethal force)

oh..also need to change the carry in church laws, should be up to the church, not the state.

Here in California, we can carry UNloaded in the open. If pistol, then loaded magazines must be carried in the open also (case law says the magazine is indeed an integral part of the pistol, thus pocketed/concealed magazine is concealed carry).

You may carry revolver speed loaders in your pocket or elsewhere, as they are not a normal part of the revolver.

The UNloaded provision covers long arms too.

In unincorporated parts of the state, and where discharge of firearms is not illegal, open carry of LOADED weapons is okay.

There are permits for concealed and open carry. Both are as rare as a conservative vote from Mayor Daly of Chicago (see, even you Illini have "fruits and nuts" in your state too :) ), hence the gray state listing.

There is a quiet, yet growing unloaded open carry movement going on here. I try to UOC as often as possible.

VCDL and other Virginia citizens have done wonders in the Commonwealth. VA is an excellent state for right to carry laws :)

RI is open carry depending on who issues your permit. My guess is that if you try it you'll get shot when the police show. I'm not saying it's a good thing, just that it might happen.

I live right on the OH/WV border. The law as I understand is in WV you can open carry loaded, even in your vehicle, but in Ohio you can open carry but in your vehicle the ammo has to be seperate and gun has to be with the action/slide open or in a closed box. That's how I understood it when reading the laws, so I have to watch when crossing the state line.

Arizona is about as open carry friendly as you'll find anywhere. We just never got over-civilized enough for it to be a problem.

I've been doing it ever since I was old enough to buy a handgun at J&G Sales, 9 years ago. I've yet to have any of the problems people seem to believe are inevitable consequences of open carry.

Vermont, free carry, open or concealed, resident and non resident, you can't get a carry permit because you don't need one. Long arms must be unloaded in motor vehicles. No guns in schools or on college campi.;) or Federal Gov buildings.

MO has open carry. Some local authorities have passed laws against it. The current CCW bill did not try to overrule that, favoring the tactic of not allowing locals to pass laws about concealed carry. I live way out in the boonies, very small farming community; I and several others OC a lot of the time.

Utah is pretty good for OC, though non-CCW permit holders can only Israeli Carry. Permit holders are good to go fully loaded. Utah recognizes CCW permits from every state in the union, which is great for visitors.

I have been OCing everywhere but work for several months and have had zero negative encounters and zero LEO encounters.

WA open carry , need CPL to open carryin your car so most of us have a CPL already , memebers of Opencarry.org have been instrumental in getting cities along the I-5 corridor to toe the line in recognize our rights to OC .

Indiana is an open carry state but you need a firearm carry license. It isn't a license to carry concealed, it's a license to carry; either open or concealed.
