I am wondering what folks that open carry would think. I am a old man with not a lot of money. I have a S&W 6906 no one that I can find makes a holster that has a retention on it other than a snap break holster. Does anyone else open carry with a leather holster and just a spring snap holster.

Just curious, why do you need a retention? Do you do cartwheels or ride a horse whilst open carrying?

Personally, I would prefer not to have a retention strap on a holster and mine retain my guns just fine.

"...why do you need a retention?" Open Carry. Because somebody's gonna grab it.

Why open carry?

Unless you are out in the woods I just don't see the point in open carrying. You needlessly scare people and draw attention to yourself. Concealed carry is best.

Guys, let's not turn this into yet another CC Vs. OC thread. Try and just answer the mans question and use the search function to find one of the many other threads debating the merits of open verses concealed carry.

Rhartwell, I carry a S&W 469 in a Bianchi 19L holster. It does have the thumb break strap for retention, but with a bit of training, the break is a perfectly natural part of the draw. Because your gun has been out of production for awhile, I don't think you'll have a ton of luck finding what you want.

Fwiw, I OC'd this gun yesterday as part of a Halloween costume. Most people didn't notice. In fact, most people don't notice the majority of tikes I've OC'd. Good luck in your search.

Most holsters that will fit the 5906 will fit the 6906, especially the ones with with the open bottom for the barrel. The 6906 is just a 5906 with a shorter barrel and slightly shorter grip.

Also most holsters that will fit the Sig 226 or 228 will fit your 6906.

Check out Safariland. I have one for my 1076. Works mgreat for a heavy all steel pistol.

When I open carry my Dan Wesson 6" it's in a generic leather holster with a retention strap. Works great for riding on the motorcycle or when I'm in the woods.

I have a safariland duty holster for my 1911, I like it because it has retention but it's not obvious - there's a button between the holster and belt that has to be depressed before the gun can come free.

I don't use any different holster for open carry. Just a Fobus paddle holster with passive retention.

I don't understand why so many people have such a problem with open carry.

^ because it not "normal" and it offends sensibilities lol...At least in yalls states you CAN open carry...

We dont have that luxury in Florida...yet

(I know about the fishing thing...I cant fish all the time though)

Thanks for your help everyone. I will get a good holster at the gun show this month

I've been open carrying daily for years. I usually use a Serpa unless I'm carrying something other than my SIG. No one has ever "tried to grab it", but retention still makes sense.

Sometimes it is the only legal option.

To answer the OPs question, try looking in the used holster bins at gun shops and gun shows. I'll bet you find something, and at a bargin price too. Your gun was once a favorite of police agencies, so I know there are good holsters out there.
