A few weeks ago with the help of HSO who helped Me with a letter, I challenged my School Board and Administration On with These ridiculous "Killing Zone Signs" they put up at Our school Bus garage and that have been present in Our school zones for some time,I spoke with my Transportation Superintendent on the phone and sent the letter to the media and newspapers in my area.I'm sad to report I have heard Nothing,The only response I received was that the school Board is Obligated by law to put the signs in Place. Its a absolute outrage for people that fail to realize once a Homicidal Maniac or Murderer bent on killing innocent people and Children does Their evil its too late. I received a letter from the Ohio Buckeye Firearms Association that they at this time was not doing any tactical protection Training for School Bus Drivers but would look into it in the future and they were sadden to think my School district administration was going in the wrong direction,,In the meantime this is all I have...to protect The children I'm respondsible for, These Signs and Prayer...

Perhaps they should allow students to have a bullet proof lunch tray under their desks?

Ahh. My bad. Lunch trays aren't allowed in classrooms.

I'm an elementary school teacher. When you are actually faced with the reality of Gun Free Zones each morning as you enter the building, lunch tray jokes fall short....mainly because our lunch trays are styrofoam. :(

Seriously though, we are sitting ducks. At least I carry my trusty Kershaw.

Even in small, conservative towns like mine, there is a mindset that guns are too dangerous to have on campus. I remember guys coming to school back in the day with their rifles hanging in the back window of their pickups.

One of My Parochial schools sits right in the middle of The University of Dayton campus,Its called the UD Ghetto 1,000's of College students, heres the latest info on whats happening as far as criminal activity..I actually drop and pick up student within 75 yards of where these incidents took place ,they were in the evenings but the fact remains Its a High crime area ,glad I got my sharp pencils and Trusty Fire exstinguisher plus my trust School Bus Gun free zone sign on my bus sign news coverage...http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/news/crime-law/no-arrests-made-in-assault-of-ud-students/nMtqr/

Ohio law does require those signs to be posted. But Ohio law does give School boards the option to provide written permission to licensees to carry on school property (which I think you already knew). However, changing the mindset of these school administrators and teachers, especially in urban areas of Ohio, is well nigh impossible.

I work in a private school in the greater Cleveland area and since I don't have union protection, I don't want them to even know that I own guns.

Are you telling us that these signs are at the bus garage ?
Does the school system own and operate the busses ?
Around here the bus companies are privately owned therefore the garages are not school property.
Where do all the folks that work at the garage and smoke, go to smoke thier cigarettes ? In thier vehicles ?

Smoking

They have a designated box they can smoke in and the school system operates Our buses...outside ,and with the new Boss I do believe Discilpines will be in order soon...

I'm a high school teacher and I feel your pain.

Somewhat on topic...

I just did an interview and photos with Dayton Daily about concealed carry on campus. I'm the UD student leader for the group we're trying to start so we can bring speakers to campus. It really is a 50/50 issue with half in support and half against.

I assume you're talking about Holy Angels which is indeed located right in the middle of half the crime reports I see come through my inbox.

Holy Angels

Yes Its Holy Angels,I believe the assaults were on Sunday, one more Point that I noticed about UD and its only because I'm suspect of anyone from Middle east and certainly this is Profiling and probably will look bad on my part But there are a multitude of Muslim Students that are around the UD area .and I'm speaking as one who grew up in east dayton..sorry but I trust no one these days

Great Article...My school bus sits on UD's campus Every day 2 times a day for 9 months..this applies to me in the same sense, plus I have 28 Elementary children I'm respondsible for...
