Oh, I forgot to mention he's never fired a .303 in his life and will be resting the weapon on his forearm for the shot.

It sounds possible with the right kind of setup and technique, but "resting the weapon on his forearm?" I saw an officer do it in the movie The Lighthorsemen but figured it probably wouldn't be the most stable technique and useless to me since I don't ride horses. What are the rules, exactly? Can he put up a flag half-way there to check for wind? Does he get prior time to learn the rifle in the days leading up to "the big shoot?" How many shots does he get? Can he have a spotter assisting him? Was he drunk when he said he could do it? Does he also get to keep the rifle if he hits it on the first try? Also, make sure there isn't a guy hiding in the bushes 50 meters directly to your right or left with a scoped .50 BMG who will fire at the same time ("Wow, that .303 sure tumbles and causes massive damage at that range!") :what: :neener:

Seriously, this is too good a story to not hear how it turns out.

I can hit about 7 out of 10 shots @ 500 yards @ 2' x 4' target..

That's FROM STANCE..

From bench, I'm 10 for 10 (or at least use to be... :uhoh: ) and so if I had my M1A in hand, I'd take your bet!

M1A + Federal Match + near windless day = money in the pocket..

It's not that hard if he's a rifleman..

Heck, I do 2" groups with my Bersa .380 at 1000 yards all day long off handed with a 15 mph crosswind and the sun in my eyes. I also wrassled me a bear when I was just 8 years old. I then shot that bear at 2000 yards right in the tuckus. In other words, if he does it once, chances are slim he'll do it twice. Don't be afraid to up the wager for the second shot.

Re: beginner's luck. Buddy of my once smacked me on a bet by putting 3 of 5 rounds into the head of a M9 qualification silhouette at 50m out of an SP-101 1.5" barrel, single action shots. He had never fired a revolver, or any other civillian firearm prior to that day, and was only a passable shot with an M9. Or else he was one heck of a sandbagger...

When will this bet take place? I am interested in the results. 1000 is a FAR shot, 10 ft is VERY small at that distance. If he doesn't know the elevation drop and all that crap, he will 100% miss. Money in the bank. 1000 is no easy task, regaurdless of what the internet commandos may say/thank.
