I own quite a few firearms of various calibers but the .22Lr is my favorite. I own seven of them at the moment and that will probably grow over the next year. My favorite things to do with my more accurate rifles is to shoot 7.62x54R casings at 30 yards, shoot the caps off coke bottles at 50 yards, and shoot cans at 100. I prefer peep sights because they are very accurate and it's a little more challenging then just using a scope at range. That makes it more fun for me. I have hit coke cans at 150 yards with a peep sight but that is the farthest out I have been able to go so far.

Good shooting

In my experience, .22LRs can be extremely accurate, even at 200+ yards. I have taken 1-shot kills on woodchucks (usually neck or head shots) at 175 yards. I prefer subsonic target loads for that. Thunderbolts (the old stuff) used to be very accurate. The new stuff, not so much. Remington Blue Box Target is good. Anyhow, the best groups I have fired was in the range of 2" at 225 yards. That was a very tight, Ruger 10/22 Target rifle. I had to spray down and wipeout the chamber about every 15 rounds max, or it wouldn't close.

My current Savage Mark II .22LR easily groups in the 1.5" range at 100 yards with a Leupold 4X, and that's with cheap, junk ammo. Pretty darned impressive considering, huh?

Keep the videos going!

I had a Savage MKII BV 22lr that shot Wolf MT / SK Standard into nice groups at 50 and 100yrds like that. But not cheap bulk ammo. Wish it did. I sold and am hoping that I will happen accross a few 22lrs that can. When I find one that will I'm hanging on to it!

I was shooting federal bulk .22lr. I do need to give it a shot with some CCI.

Pretty good stuff guys. Nuthin' quite like shootin' 22's at "long-range."

Thought this was pretty good for sighting in my Mk III with Win. Dynapoints. This was the 1st 4 shots at 45 yds. after boresighting with a Bushnell grid boresighter using a makeshift rest off the side of a dirt bank kneeling. Have shot this rig out to 400 yds. before by maximizing the ~120 MOA of up adjustment in the 2X Nikon's turret using Burris Pos-Align ring offset inserts and shims, and the 20 MOA plex reticle subtension for windage--

Here's the Barska 2x that was on it before. This is ~5 hits out of 10 shot @ 200yds. in about a 20 mph x-wind. ~ 25 MOA of up and 1.25 (15 MOA) plex post tip units windage-

I've enjoyed shooting .22LR since first being taught to shoot by my dad some 51 years ago. I still have that Winchester Model 69A that he gave me. It was the rifle he learned to shoot with back in 1947. I have no idea how many rounds have been down the pipe since my dad bought it, but it is still quite accurate out to 100 yards, peep sight and all. One of my favorite .22s is a Browning SA22. With open sights it is a tack driver out to 75 yards. Then my 61+ eyes give out. With a scope the little take down .22 would do well out to and beyond 100 yards. I would enjoy shooting all my .22 rifles and pistol much more if the ammo were more available. My wife love shooting the old Winchester as well a a couple more of the .22 rifles so between the two of us we can shoot quite a few rounds during a trip to our gun club's range. That is when we can dig up the ammo. I have an easier time finding center fire ammo than I do .22LR tese days. Go figure.

My Savage MkIIBTV groups under 1.5" consistently at 100 yards with about half my groups being under 1". But it is very picky about ammo. It shoots CCI SV pretty well but to get those great groups I have to shoot Eley Black target ammo. I was getting good groups with Wolf but for some reason Wolf quality dropped off in the past 2 years at least everywhere I've bought any. I have several bricks that just won't get it done like it was going before. That's not just in my Savage either. My CZ is the same way. BTW my CZ also gets about 1.5" groups at 100 yards.

I love shooting the 22LR. More fun than the big stuff most of the time, I am just getting frustrated at the lack of ammunition available. I understand why everybody went berserk buying stuff with all the new anti gun legislation that was coming down the pike, which thank The Lord didn't make it through the senate. But i am beginning to wonder when, if ever the shelves will start holding more than dust!

Long distance .22 shooting can be quite satisfying....we shoot flies at 100 yards. Sprinkle Coke on the back side of a target and let it dry, flies will land to feed on the dried sugar. If the bullet hole is surrounded with bug blood, you've scored a hit.

My favorites are the Winchester 52's and Volquartsen .22's.

OK boys enough TALK about shootin', lets get out and shoot some targets for the 2nd Quarter rimfire match. I just had the CZ452 out shooting steel plates at 242yds, forgot the 2nd quarter targets. Hopefully I can get back out this week. I've got enough ammo for the summer and have some backordered through the CMP. I got a reply on std ammo and says it will ship in 30 days, Match ammo is 60 - 120 days.

Right now I only have a 200 yd range. That is well beyond anything I've tried very often. It is funny how "normal" it feels, after a few shots, to be trying a long distance shot...and you are sure it really is possable. I really should have tried this long ago!

I don't have to look for longer range. I have plenty of work to do right here at 200 yds! :D
