Honestly, no one has mentioned a real loser of a gun yet. Speaking out of experience of what I like, I have owned Glocks, Rugers (P-Series and an SR9), 1911's, XD's, and a few others, and there isn't a whole lot that I haven't shot. When it comes to 9mm, for me, my two favorites are the SR9 and the XD. I really like the XD because it happens to fit my hand, and I enjoy the size and placement of the controls. The SR9 I enjoy because it is thin and to manage. I very much like Glocks, but for whatever reason the Gen 4's rub the top of my hand raw. The Gen 3's did not, or at least the Gen 3 Glock 26 that I carried for a while did not. Still, after buying my first XD I realized that was the polymer 9mm for me, with the Ruger a close second.
I have not shot, but handled, the FN pistols, and I like them quite a bit. Same for Caracal. Now, this is just what I like, and is not meant to be the definitive list.
