Operation Arrowhead Ripper - Iraq

God, I know most people won't understand it. But I would've given anything to be in a fight like this when I was in the Army.

Hell of an article!

It's really nice to read, from people there, positive and optimistic views of the day to day battles and the eventual outcome. If you read the internet much, even some on this site, it leaves you with the impression that many are pulling for us to loose this war.

No one is pulling for us to lose and the soldiers are certainly heroes but the futility of this war is that any success on our part against Sunni insurgents only helps the Shi'ite fundamentalist govt which we helped to install. The Shi'ite govt just happens to be extremely close to the neighboring Shi'ite govt. in Iran and sympathetic to the Shi'ite fundamentalist movement in Lebanon, Hezbollah. The more we beat up on the Sunnis the more powerful the Shi'ite crescent becomes. We can almost hear the Shi'ites popping the champagne (or its non-alcoholic variant) every time we launch yet another offensive against their enemies.

By comparison the South Vietnamese govt, as corrupt and incompetent as it was, was a wonderful ally.

I really think that the mission over there ended when Saddam hit the bottom of that rope. Everything after that is really none of our business. Whenever we interfere on someone else's civil war it just brings us closer to having one of our own.

I have been screaming it from the roof tops for two years: The solution needed is a political one. ALQ was not in Iraq in 2003 but they sure are now. Iraqi's are not the big problem, foreign fighters are and have been for at least two years.

But Iraq's are getting fed up and are starting to realize that all the ALQ offers them is an express elevator to hell. Hold on tight it is going to be a long hot summer and even longer fall.

Wow, an impressive piece. This Yon character is worth keeping an eye on, he seems really passionate, insightful, and intelligent. Thanks for posting this, I'm adding that blog to my favorites.

Bad form, Marshall. We're smart enough to recognize the difference between dissent and treason, no?
