I'd like to purchase an operator stock. Can't decide if magpul is the best option.
Just on an AR-15
i know the magazines are top notch!

All the really bad ass operators use wood. Actually it's the only way to tell you're in the presence of a real live operator.

Weird - I guess my entire Troop this last deployment were 'operators' since all of our issue M4s had that style stock with the wider cheek weld area. Funny too that the SF guys we worked with had 'regular' style stocks on their M4s. I hate that term.

In all seriousness though, it's a much improved design over the narrow 'regular' stock M4s are issued with.

i have an LMT sopmod stock. it's comfortable and with batteries adds some useful target shooting weight. I also add in some small foam ear plugs to prevent any rattling from the batteries.

it's overpriced and that magpul ACS has a more natural angle. i've heard that 90 degree angle is good for when you're using body armor but thats just not very relevant to me.

Grrr ... I'm presently boycotting anything gun-related that uses the term "operator." But I'm running MagPul CTR stocks on a couple of my ARs, and I have to say that they're about the best compromise carbine stocks I've ever used.

Come on guys, nobody is running the woody? Kick it old school for a change. It's got that wood smell. It'll even catch fire on a full auto. That always looks bad ass, especially in low light.

I'm a big fan of the Vltor EMOD stock. It has battery compartments that can fit 4 CR123 or 3 AA batteries on each side and these battery compartments provide a very good cheek weld. It also has an additional lower compartment for storing small items, such as additional batteries, small parts, a bore snake, etc. It also has a sturdy rubberized recoil pad and a heel strike plate (good for butt strokes to the face in CQB).

Here's some pics at the Vltor site:

And a review of this stock (with pics) by stickman on weaponevolution.com:

I like your wood July, I want to do a A1 style rifle some day.

The term "operator" for a butt stock is kind of lame. There are some really nice options available, the sobmod and ubr are the only collapsible stocks that I have used with zero slop. The Vltor emod is nice. Most better butts have provisions for a QD swivel. One exception is the PRS but you can buy a QD piece to replace the standard sling loop.

Magpul ACS is what I'm running. I like it better than the LMT SOPMOD which is about $100 more.

All my compartments are empty, but I may sew up a bag of lead fishing weights to stuff in the hatch.

The term "operator" is basically mall-ninja marketing idiocy now.

If you want the stock to provide specific features, maybe we can offer some suggestions, after you define what you want.

I said operator stock, because 99% of the time that's what they are being referred to. Not only that, everyone on this forum knew exactly what i was talking about. So the Mall Ninja joke is kinda joking on yourself. I wanted serious feedback, and glad I got it from a certain few. Basically, I'm down to two types, MagPul and The rock river. My AR is a Rock River as well.

Personally I like the Magpul UBR (that's what's on one of my rifles) but the ultimate "operator" stock has got to be the SSAR-15 slide fire stock ;) Get one of those!

I only see that name used in marketing silliness and among the dregs of teenage discussions of firearms. Maybe I just hang with the wrong crowd.

Yes, you apparently want a non-standard stock that looks spiffy and "high speed" and you aren't focused on the actual functionality.

negative....functionality is important, as well as weight.
Ever read the book Liscensed to Kill by Robert Pelton? very good insight.
I'd also like to know what i should description, or verbage i should have used also, what are these private/paramilitary individuals called. Obviously I am talking to a group of individuals here who know more than me....so please, enlighten me.

that's what i thought.
as well the stocks picked out, vs the "stock" one are very different and maybe sticking with the original is the best way. That book, i was reffering to earlier, clearly states the privatised mercanaries which were pre curser for today's contractors failed therefor making certain companies go out of business

AR15 stock decision tree (rough):

1)A) If I already have a stock, what do I want to improve?
1)B) If I don't already have a stock, what features do I want?
2) Am I in a state where I can legally have a telestock?
3) Do I prefer a fixed length or adjustable stock?
4) How much weight is acceptable?
5) Do I care about battery storage?
6) Am I finicky about slight wobble in telestocks?
7) How much $$ can I afford?
8) Do I need/want a QD sling swivel cup?
9) Do I intend to use the VLTOR A5 buffer system?

Answer those and I (and others) can make good recommendations.
