I want to put a smaller set of grips on a M640-1 J frame. It's a .357 Magnum so it does have a good kick but since it's Stainless it's not too bad.

I have narrowed it down to two grips, either Uncle Mike's boot grips or Hogue Bantam grips. I would like feedback on which of the two aid more in the reduction of felt recoil with firing Magnum rounds.

PLEASE!!! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION AS ASKED, DON'T RELPY! I DO NOT WANT ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS!!

DaleCooper51,
Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning on the Hogue side right now but won't be doing anything until I shoot the revolver with the Uncle Mike's boot grips I have on my M638 and the wood grips that came with the revolver first.

Here is the link to the thread with pictures of my almost new M640...

ArchAngelCD - I have the Bantam's on both of my X42's. I like them better than the UM's because the thumb shelf on the UM's pretty much forces me into a fixed grip location and that position is not perfect for me. The Bantam's have a much less pronounced thumb shelf area that allows some grip position adjustment and they fit me much better. The Bantam's also have a slightly larger palm swell that fits me better. I also really like the pebble grain pattern and the fact that there is no screw. These are .38 special not .357 but as far as recoil goes, with non +P I don't really feel much difference, with BB 158+P I think I can feel some improvement, but in my case I think the real difference is I do shoot better with the Bantam's.

My 640 did fine with the Houge Bantam grips. Magnum loads out of a J-frame are a handful no matter what kind of grips it wears, but I found the 640 to be much more controlable with the small Houge grips than I expected. With .38 +p's it was a pussycat.
