S&W MP a quality lower to build from? Only reason I ask is my LGS has several brands on hand (Spike, DPMS, RRA....)and SW seems to be just above middle of the road prices wise.

Not looking to save $30/50$, I feel it's irrelevant on a rifle build that will ultimately cost close to 1K or more. Especially on the receiver, can save elsewhere but no there, I think.

Not really looking to order a lower receiver on-line either, the trouble with having it shipped to an FFL and go pick it up, transfer fees, shipping fees BLA BLA BLA, much rather go to the LGS and pick one up, pay, walk out, done.

Long story short. Is SW MP lower a good quality buy? I am not building a race gun here. Just building a fun plinker, M4 platform, that I may use in the odd 3 gun match (for fun, no championship/serious comp expectations) shove an EOtech on it and be done.

Like I said, not looking for cheapest or top shelf, just good value. the build is just a fun project for me, just 'cause I like to tinker with boom sticks:D

There are a few brands I would avoid (vulcan/hesse, olympic), but for the most part, a lower is a lower.

Out of the four brands you listed, I would go with the lowest price tag. If not for the rollmark, I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

I've had a S&W for almost 2 years now with 1500 to 2000 rounds thru it. I have been very happy with it.

I've had mine for several years now it was the fisrt AR I bought and I have about 23,000 rounds through mine (I'm in school right now to be a LEO and a bunch of my classmates and I go shooting ALOT) any way when i get another lower or whole AR, I'm going to get a smith&wesson. I shot alot of others and I think smith just got it right quality to cost wise.

These are two pics I already had uploaded.

my m&p had a tight magwell but was built with pivot and takedown pins that were tight. Rifle was fit very well.

If you're looking at complete lower receivers, excepting complete lemon receivers (which have already been mentioned), the real difference will come in the parts kit and buttstock. Of the brands you listed, I believe the Smith and the Spikes will come with a mil spec buffer tube, the RRA and DPMS will not. I would buy the least expensive lower with a mil spec buffer tube. Some googling will tell you the difference between mil spec and commercial buffer tubes, and how to tell them apart.

They are stripped lowers, so I can build them anyway I choose. THX!

If they're all stripped, buy the cheapest one, OR the prettiest one you are willing to pay for.
